I was reading an article at consumeraffairs.com about how lax the IRS has been about protecting people from identity theft and fraud. This issue has grown to alarming rates and it seems to happen a lot. Scams have been perpetrated on the older generation because they are vulnerableĀ and easy prey, but now we really need to be concerned about identity theft.
Bill and I are keen on shredding everything, but when you file taxes all that information isn’t guarded as well as it should be and anyone can be at risk. I’m sure many of you already know about Lifelock and use it. It’s a good program that stands behind you and keeps your information guarded and will spend up to a million dollars to get your identity back and for 110 dollars a year that’s pretty good protection.
The IRS had 92,000 complaints connected with fraud and identity theft in the years of 05 and 06, now that’s very alarming. They should use a system like lifelock for better protection because it takes lots of money and expense to get your life back on your own. It’s not right to see anyone victimized in that way, but it bothers me most when I see it happen to older people that have worked hard all their lives and expected to retire in peace and relaxation to find everything had been stolen from them.
