I’m Going To Learn How To Shoot A Handgun

Posted by: admin   in Home and Family

Bill and I were talking about all of the home invasions that have been occurring around our area and it is usually perpetrated on the elderly and single people, any household that appears to be an easy target. We have 2 dogs and it really doesn’t bother me that they bark when people go by that way at least it lets people know that we might have big old mean dogs and to stay away.

We do have hand guns and Bill just renewed his permit. I have always been very leery of guns and I do have a healthy respect for what they can do. I have often wondered if I could actually shoot someone and I really don’t have an answer for that question. I guess it would depend on the situation and how desperate I might feel. Bill just gave me a 25 automatic and I was holding it the other night to see how it feels.

I have on occasion wanted to shoot my pc, but not sure about a person. Bill told me he would take me to the shooting range and teach me how to shoot. I wouldn’t mind learning with something small like the 25 automatic. I would think that you just aim and fire, but I guess I would need to know where to aim. It would seem that I would have to be pretty close to someone with that to stop them.

When I was 17 my husband decided he would teach me to shoot a rifle and he totally lied to me and said it wouldn’t kick me. I was excited to learn, but I had no plans to ever go shoot anything like he did. He gave me a 12 gauge and showed me what to do and when I squeezed the trigger it almost took my shoulder off, the sorry creep. After that he bought me a 410, but by then I was done.

I hope it never comes down to me finding out if I would shoot someone and under what circumstances, but if it ever does I at least want to know what I’m doing.

I just finished reading an article about the Bible’s viewpoint on when self-defense is justified. This question had come to me many times while reading articles in the paper or seeing shows on TV about home invasion. Interestingly, first and foremost the Bible advocates seeking peace as the best way to avoid violence. Granted that is not always possible when you are being assailed. The article brought out scriptures where Jesus did not condone the use of physical violence to protect material possessions (Matthew 5:39, Luke 6:29). On the other hand if your life was in danger there are actual scriptural guidelines set out from way back in the Mosaic Law. It said that if a thief was caught during the day and killed than the assailant (originally the victim) would be convicted of murder because the thief could be identified and his crime was not deserving of death. If the thief came in at night and the same thing happened, though not a desirous outcome, if the thief was killed the death would be deemed accidental since you could not tell exactly what he was doing in your home and could have harmed your family. This section concluded that if the intruder became aggressive that it would be reasonable to do all you could to ward off and neutralize the attack. If the aggressor was seriously injured or died because of the altercation then his death should be deemed accidental and not deliberate.

I thought that was interesting.

Hi Sharon,
I actually don’t think I could ever shoot someone to kill, but I have certainly smacked the life out of a bee that stung me so who knows what I might do if bodily harm is imminent and I’m not ready to go at that point in time. I bother no one so I expect the same.

If someone invaded my home they could have all my material possessions, but if they hurt Bill my rage would be so great I would imagine my mind might just snap and I may be able to do some real harm if I could get my hands on something.

I hope I never have to find out.

Congrats and good luck! I hope you never actually need to use it either..but..at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing you won’t be the next victim!

Hi BoBo,
I’ll have to tell you Bill’s clown story sometime. He’s so funny and hates clowns:) I hate to admit that I have been a victim all my life, but I guess it was experiences I needed to learn, but I hope I learned enough and paid my karma that I wont be a victim again.

As a hand gun owner I think you will like a handgun, the kick is different. I don’t think it is painful, your hand just goes up in the air. No bruising to worry of. I have shot since I was a kid, but I think it is very important for a woman to protect herself. Go to the range, learn gun safety. I feel safer knowing I can take care of myself!

I know what you mean. My husband and I have often talked about the glass bottles or baseball bats we keep in the house. He says he’d have no problem beating the daylights out of someone who tried to harm us. I just wanted to share what this article because it was a comfort that we would not be considered bloodguilty if the worst happened while we were justifiably defending ourselves.

I really hope we don’t have to find out the hard way.

Congratulations for taking on the responsibility for the defense of your self and your home!

I never want to have to hurt anyone, either, but my husband and I have trained with our guns and have CCW permits. If one of us has to, we will shoot to defend ourselves.

I wouldn’t want any gun in my house because I just hear about too many accidents with them. Please be careful and good luck with learning how to use it.

Aim barrel, release safety, pull trigger.

They make a lot of noise though.

Never shot a hand gun, I have shot a revolver and a shot gun though. Does that count?

I could totally shoot someone if my life was in danger. I would shoot an arm or groin before shooting in the head… Not sure I could handle blowing someones head off.

I have never shot a gun, but I don’t think that means I will never shoot it. One never knows. This happen.
