Looking Forward To Those Golden Years?

Posted by: jude   in Home and Family

I have been trying to think of all the great things that all you young people have to look forward to as you get closer to those golden years, but to date to be honest not many come to mind except having the service charge at my bank stopped and I’m really looking forward to the Denny’s senior discount at 55 of course since Bill is 60 he gets a senior discount at Country Buffet and wow they even pulled his name for a free meal now how cool is that to look forward to?

Well, that was 2 months ago and we still didn’t collect on that one. We were going to take Nate there for breakfast this past weekend, but I was sick and Bill didn’t want to go without me so he made Nate pancakes and rode him around on the scooter. Okay, Grandkids is a good one you can look forward to and I just recently cleared Nana as my chosen name for the new Grandbaby because I really don’t ever want to be called Granny.

I know your really going to enjoy all those wrinkles and stiff joints and all those trips to the doctor, of course I haven’t made a habit of the doctor visits yet, but I know it will come in time because something always seems to be wrong with the older people that I know and that’s something else you’ll have to look forward to you can sit around comparing all your strange illnesses and try to out do each other.

Really old people seem to have a different odor, now that’s really something to look forward to. No matter how good the hygiene may be there is simply an old smell it could be from changes in the glands, deteriorating cells, medications, being around all that junk they have collected all their life, old clothes that they have worn for a hundred years, all those yucky smelling moth balls to preserve stuff, which I totally refuse to use.

Whatever causes the old age smell that is something that I simply don’t look forward to. I have noticed though because we are living longer now and taking better care of ourselves that the old age smell is occurring a lot later than in years before. I actually was looking forward to being wiser, you know the one about wisdom coming with age, but I now realize that I seemed a lot wiser when I was younger, but didn’t know how to use the wisdom I had.

For all you young people, live your life and enjoy the now and make everyday count, don’t take everything for granted because before you know it you’ll be where I am, not that I’m unhappy because I’m not and I really wouldn’t want to be young again I just didn’t realize I was going to have all these old age aches and pains until I was actually ancient, but I do look forward to waking up each morning and that’s something everyone can really look forward to at any age.

I don’t hit the ground running anymore, but every day above ground is a good one. I enjoy the wisdom life has given me, and can’t really say what younger age I’d like to be if I could. I luv my kids and ‘Lil Moomette, who refers to me as “Mammy” at 20 mos. Plus, Slugger is due any day now. As far as the old age smell…I won’t go there, except to say my Nana lived to be 101, and I don’t recall any with her. Enjoy your blog.

Hello Cindi nice to meet you and I do enjoy my blog most of the time when my old age isn’t getting me down.

I have a weird sense of humor actually and what I wrote wasn’t meant to offend anyone. I’m quite sure not all old people have that old age smell, but for many there is a very distinct odor.

There’s also the senior moments to look forward to when you can’t remember things and the slowing down. I remember how my dad was always saying he never got much done because he fell asleep during the day.
