Update On My Son In Kentucky

Posted by: jude   in Home and Family

Eric went for his second opinion in Louisville and these doctors were surprised that the other hospital hadn’t removed his gallbladder and stones when they did the biopsy because it would have been healed at the same time that the chamberlain procedure would have been healed before he started his chemo.

As it stands now he can’t eat high protein because it makes him sick and with the chemo he is really ill for a week afterwards. Some doctors are stupid as far as I’m concerned because you need all the strength you can muster when taking these stupid treatments. I’m really grateful that he had extra weight because just from 2 sets of treatments he’s lost 46 pounds.

They told him they were going to do 2 more sets which consists of 3 days of chemo and 3 weeks off and then they were going to do a scan and another bone marrow test and see if the cells and masses have shrunk. They also told him after that time they will see if they can remove the gallbladder and stones. I personally don’t see how they can unless they stop chemo for a period of time.

I’m hoping the masses will have shrunk so they can get the gallbladder out because he’s in so much pain. They told him that the other doctors had prescribed the right type of chemo for him so at least they were competent in that respect. Eric told them that he would travel out of state if any clinical trials become available. He is willing to try any new treatments and be a guinea pig.

The last week of September Bill and I will be going to visit Eric and Ethan (new grandson) in Kentucky and I can hardly wait. Ethan was born on Aug. 1st and I was there for the birth so he will be almost 2 months when I see him again. Babies grow quick so I can’t wait to see how active he will be. I know he will be walking and talking by then, just my Nana humor.

I do dread seeing the big change in my Son though so I have been preparing myself so I don’t lose it when I see him next. I really hate that we are so far apart especially now, but I guess we all need time to adjust.

Thanks for the update on your son. It’s a shame he has so much pain to deal with all at once. I am praying God would give the doctors wisdom and your son encouragement through this tough time. I can imagine how anxious you must be to see your son and grandson again. Hang in there!

Yes, thanks for the update. Your son is in my thoughts and prayers, hopefully these new doctors will have a more positive prognosis after he goes through the treatments.

Firstly, I hope everything goes well for Eric.

Secondly, YAY! for the new grandbaby. Grandbabies are one of life’s ultimate gifts, in my humble opinion.

Thirdly, regarding the doctors … is there an insurance company involved? I was at a networking meeting yesterday where the 10-minute spotlight was on an insurance rep who gave us the ugly nitty-gritty of business. The insurance companies are the ones who often tie the hands of doctors. It’s scary, really, when you think that someone sitting at a desk of thousands in a huge insurance call centers making treatment decisions without a medical degree. Well, to be fair, making decisions as to what treatment they will pay for, but that ultimately boils down to the treatment that the patient will receive.

Doctors are humans, too and as such are subject to lapses in judgment. I’m truly sorry your son is in so much pain in addition to all he’s suffering I pray that he be lifted out of his travails by God’s glory.

I’m so sorry to read about your son’s health problems. I hope they get things worked out and can keep him more comfortable during the chemo. You’re right, he needs all his strength to fight the disease and the treatments, and doctors are stupid sometimes. You’re in my prayers.

Hi Hilary,
Eric has 2 million lifetime coverage through Etna so there was no problem with coverage and I actually thought they ran tests too many times and even wanted to give radiation in addition and these new doctors said that wasn’t even necessary. Thanks so much for your nice comment.

Thank you so much for the update! I’m still praying for Eric and your family; hang in there!

Unfortunately doctors aren’t always right and don’t always ‘work smart’. :(
