Retirement At 62

   Posted by: jude   in Retirement

Bill is planning on retiring at 62 and he will be 61 in December so he is really looking forward to that day even though we have both known people that have died soon after retirement. I worry that he will become bored after awhile and not know what to do with all of that free time because unlike me he’s not interested in the Internet. Right now he’s pretty sure that he wants the life of leisure, but things don’t always turn out the way we dream.

He has been at the same company over 40 years PA Stone. It’s a small company, but they put out some very big jobs which surprised me after touring the small plant and the conditions that they work in. When we are out riding the bike he has pointed out some pretty impressive places and he has so much knowledge, but none of the guys that work under him wants to learn and I really don’t think they care it’s just a job. Bill takes great pride in what he does and I’m very proud of him.

I keep telling him that when he retires that company will go under because no one knows or wants to learn what he knows. I will almost guarantee that they will beg him to come back and if they do and he decides he wants to go back then it will be only part time because that place is killing him and he definitely needs a break from them. All he thinks about is his work and how he can get the job done. I know he gets so stressed with some of the stupid jobs they take.

We are leaving here Sunday morning to see my Son and Grandson and Pappy can’t wait to see Ethan, almost as much as me. The guys at work depend on Bill to do way more than what he should be doing and now their moaning and groaning about this new job that Bill is crafting patterns and molds for so they will have everything they need to run it while he’s away, dollars to donuts = meaning that I’m sure that they will wait till he comes back.

So next week I wont be around a computer so that means I better try to advertise as much as possible so I don’t slip way back to the back of my category where I wont even find me so happy blogging to you all.

Have a wonderful trip! Your blog is marked as one of my favorites so I’ll be dropping while you’re gone.

Bill sounds like an extremely valuable employee and I’m sure they’ll miss him when he’s away. That’s nice you get to visit your son and grandson again this weekend. I’m happy for you. Retiring at 62 and being so close must be exciting but I think you’re probably right about Bill getting bored then. I think my husband will get pretty bored to when he retires because even now, he can’t stand to just hang around the house on the weekends–he has to get out and do something or he turns into a growly bear. I love him, but I don’t like going for walks in the rain–he doesn’t mind at all!

Hi Hilary,
Thank-you very much, just seeing them will be wonderful and at least Bill will be driving this time. Thanks for your kindness.

Hello Karen,
Bill gets very antsy on the week-ends so I know what you mean and there’s only so much he can do to his motorcycle. Bill is very valuable none of those guys even want to learn what he knows only one other knows some, but he’s going to retire as soon as he can too.

I’ll give Bill a few months and knowing him he’ll be dying to help out part time or find something to fill his time. Thanks for stopping.

Hi Janrafi,
Thanks so much for your visit and time. I agree that the Internet would be an ideal solution for family members that live so far apart. I also wish my son was connected, but they have more important things to worry about at this time, have a great day.

What you say about your husband and his job could have been written by my wife about me….up until last year when I retired! And I LOVE IT!!

It sounds like Bill deserves his retirement. We have been asked for voluntary redundancy at work and I have applied for it. I hope you have a great visit and enjoy your family!

Your husband sounds alot like mine. Jim just retired August 1st from his job at the Navy shipyard here in Bremerton. He is 59, but they count his 4 years in the military so he had 31 years working Federal civil service. In all the years that he worked in this shipyard they never really trained anyone to take his place, so now, as the older generation retires, we will be left with a gap in the experience that will take another generation to fill.

My husband and I retired at 62 and we love it. He doesn’t spend as much time on the computer as I do, but his new hobby is transforming our basement into his den.

Hi ! 62 is not the end of a life of service and working for someone else. It is the beginning of devotion to one’s self, their loved ones and fulfillment of dreams. Fluffy and I know people that went to clown school and became great clowns after retirement. It changed their lives!
The power of positive thinking will work wonders!
What the mind of man or woman can conceive, it can achieve! Dream, dream, dream!
