I'm glad to hear that more people are using motorcycles and scooters as a means of transportation. I know in India, though there are a lot of cars, there's more cyclists (even none motorized) and buses than in America. I think by believing the oil companies encouragements decades ago, we as a nation became spoiled (everyone having their own car was the norm when I was a kid) and have been reluctant to give up some of the niceties that's fueled by oil, now that the oil companies had to admit that the supply wasn't endless after all.

We can't depend on our government to do everything that needs to be done. For some reason we look to government officials and hesitate to take action ourselves.

As far as our politicians, I think there is a wide gap between their policies and what is truly needed for the benefit of our country and its people. Which means that the average citizen has lost power to influence their elected officials.

An ideal might be to get rid of the lobbyists, but I don't know how to stop a Senator's pet project being used as payment among the senators and the White House for votes on bills. Isn't doing that the same as bribery?
