This was a very frustrating morning with my web host. My sites and blogs have been down for 4 hours and I just spoke with live chat support for Bluehost and the final reply was:

Mike [8:16:57 AM]: Welcome to our real-time support area

 

jude [8:16:57 AM]: It’s been 4 hours now, how much longer?
[8:17:44 AM]: Any idea when this issue will be resolved?

 

Mike [8:18:09 AM]: We had a cooling outage for a little while and deeply apologize for the inconvenience as we had to shut some servers down to protect our hardware and your data. Our repairman was able to find the parts we need and we’re told by the admins that the cooling is now back on. After that we’d just be waiting for the servers to come up after the room has cooled off enough to turn them back on safely.

We appreciate your continued patience. I apologize that we are too swamped for me to speak to you individually at this time. Once things calm down we’ll resume normal support service. I’ve only seen this happen once in my many years here and no it should not continue to be a problem.

Finally back up….I have had down time with them before, but nothing of this magnitude and from Mike’s reply apparently he’s only seen this once before. At any rate I would like to apologize to those bloggers that were unable to reach my blog and I certainly hope there will be no other outages. I know these problems happen from time to time, but 4 hours is ridiculous. Have a great day, I have to go check on Shadow he’s very restless today.

there’s nothing wrong with the customer service reply to your question. But it shouldn’t take too long to get everything back up. Most probably it’s the central conditioning unit that broke down. Server rooms tend to get very hot in a short time. If it’s just the CPU cooling unit, I most probably sure that they have a spare unit kept for cases like that..bluehost is a reliable host so you might be lucky to have this experience. Cheer up !

I’m very annoyed with Bluehost right now. Out of the blue, with no warning whatsoever, the suspended both of my blogs and deactivated my c-panel. Only AFTER I submitted a ticket did they bother to send me an email to tell me what they’d done. They then sent another email explaining their reasons why, all technical jargon that I didn’t have a clue what they were talking about.

Boy, am I grateful I haven’t had any problems like that. I think in the year that I’ve had my blog, my server has gone down only a couple of times and was back up in minutes.

The other times my blog was down, it was caused by my own site tinkering :( lol
