Things That Crack Me Up Online

Posted by: jude   in Marketing Online

There are certain things that crack me up when I am surfing blogs and websites and the first one on the list are those blogs that are telling us how to make money online and then they have a donate button. Then we have those marketing sites that have a provocative woman on their banner in hopes that we will be bedazzled by the allure and simply plunk our money down for whatever product or course they are pushing. Do men really think a provocative woman will sell anything, especially to another woman?

Also all of those SEO blogs that tell us how to improve our SEO and get a better Google page rank and they don’t even have a rank, now that really cracks me up. I love animal and baby blogs, but it really cracks me up when these blogs are written like the animal and babies are thinking all this stuff up although many are done very well and there are quite a few I really like to visit. The comments are also funny because they’re from other animals and babies and typed in how presumably that animal or baby would sound if it actually talked or typed.

I crack myself up because I’ve joined so many social groups that I never have time to be social in any of them. If I visited every site that I’ve joined I’d never be able to get anything done and what’s really funny is when I try to join one that I joined years ago and had forgot about it. Can’t figure out why I keep doing this. I really find it amusing when people buy the same articles from a source and don’t change them and they add their name as author, but they have a sign on their blog that Copyscape is protecting their articles, now tell me how dumb is that?

Another thing that cracks me up are the blogger blogs. I have typed numerous comments on some of these blogs and get down to the bottom to post it and find that they don’t give the option for your name and url, just the Google and open ID so I delete the comment and move on. It’s not like you are going to get a link back to your site because the majority are always nofollow, so what’s the deal? Then people get upset because no one is leaving them comments, go figure. Also the sites that are hosted where you have to register to post a comment, no thanks and I’m really sorry because some I’d like to comment on.

Well, I guess that’s enough online things to be cracked up about today. I’m quite sure I have a long list some where I’ll have to dig out.

Whoops – pressed the wrong button before I finished! What I was going to say was that’s a real peeve of mine too. Spend ages writing a beautiful comment, and then there’s no way to post it.

Uh oh, is my blog one of those?! I never thought about it–I’ll check.

I am always wondering about the pet and kid blogs too. Why do pets have to talk “baby talk”? Because I’m pretty sure if my grumpy cat could talk, it would be a lot like an old man, peppering her sentences with curse words like a truck driver.

I’m the same way! It’s even difficult for me to click on a provocative entrecard… you know the type; something female centered. She’s half undressed and has that look in her eyes…
NO thanks! LOL!

I hate captcha too. It’s not enough that we have to jump through hoops to get a comment through, but then we’ve got to decipher hieroglyphics.

I know it serves a purpose, but that doesn’t mean I like it. ;)

I agree with you on all counts! Especially on those pet blogs, I could really care less what some lady’s cat is doing or supposedly thinking.

And Pam, I hate captcha too, I don’t know how many times I’ve had to keep clicking to get a new image cuz I couldn’t decipher it. I’ve tried clicking on the one that reads it out loud, but I’m apparently deaf as well as blind!

When I first started I had my comments limited and you were the one that pointed it out to me so I changed it immediately–I just didn’t know and am very grateful to you for mentioning it in an email to me.

I agree with the above commenters that CAPTCHA is a big pain–often I can’t make out the letters and waste extra time on it. I would never put that on my blog!

How about the blogs that have a little “shift: so as soon as you try to click on the EC it shifts and you click on an ad? Hate those.

Hi Jude

Great article! When I read it in my RSS reader, I had to come to put my two cents in.

I’ve noted many of the same points you made, plus I have left without commenting on sites with only open ID or google ID as well.

I have a Google account, but what if I didn’t? Why would I want to sign up for Google just to be able to leave a comment on your site?

Captha I refuse because that screws up more than it works.

And I love Lin’s comment about her cat, hahaha. Thanks for the laugh Lin! :)

Take care Jude, many blessings :)

Jude,
I’m with you on all counts. And Lin, your blog is fine. I keep running across one blog that seems to want comments but doesn’t have comments allowed. I want to hug this blogger and tell her people really are out there and want to talk to her but she needs to press some buttons and open her comment function.

Regarding captcha, I actually think it’s fun. I usually try to figure out why the words are placed together. I can’t believe some computer selected those specific two words. I really believe a person sees some meaning in the combination.

Ok, I just looked at my own comment form on my blogger blog and if you look on the comment form below the “Google/Blogger ID” and right below the “Open ID” there is a button for “Name/URL” – you can enter your name and url and you don’t have to sign up for anything and you can leave a comment. No different than on this blog where I leave my name and url. I don’t get the uproar over this – you DO have the option to leave a comment with just your name and url. Maybe this is something new?

Carole and Lin both your blogs are fine otherwise I never would have got a comment in because I don’t like using the open id or Google. Like Karen changed hers in settings many don’t bother to change it.

I also hate those Matt and I’ve noticed a lot more doing that lately.

Thanks for all your comments and knowing everyone else things these things are weird makes me chuckle.

Lin my 2 dogs would probably sound a lot like your cat. :)

Some captcha’s are okay and others are just put there to annoy me and Jane Doe.

Good to see you Lea, I hope everything is going good with you.

I could be guilty of all those things, but I hope not. I do have a little ‘donate’ through PayPal button on my other blog Pentimento though. No one ever has and I probably should just take it off. Truthfully, I forget about things like that. Now and then, I do go through and ‘clean house’ on my blogs just to make them so they aren’t all ads. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who goes nuts for social networking and then spends no time doing it. It’s right up there with those silly applications on Facebook where you have to grow a plant, or accept ice cream treats. It IS for donating to good causes, but who has time for that either? Last on the list of things I don’t do…memes. I just don’t have time ::: big sigh::: And last of all, I wish CommentLuv worked on all blog platforms. I know you have it, but it isn’t picking up my last post. Rats!

Carol….You don’t try to tell people how to make money. Your blog is not a marketing blog. You have a cool blog about Geneaolgy and if you can make a few bucks then more power to you. I really like your blog. I didn’t write this post to make people question there self or what other people think. It was just a few things I have observed over the years and I tried to find your last post and make sure it showed, but I couldn’t.

My pet peeves are Blogger/registered-only comments and cheesecake ads. And, I suppose, poor grammar; I’m a compulsive proofreader, and there are some blogs out there that I just want to take a red pen to.

Captcha’s a sort of pet peeve, but I can’t not use it; the last time I tried to turn it off, I ended up spending more time deleting spam comments than actually working on my blog. Was pretty awkward.

Carol: when you entered your url, did it have a slash on the end? I find that for some reason CommentLuv doesn’t pick me up when I include the end slash, but when I don’t it does. Might be worth trying.

I really didn’t intend this as a pet peeve type of post. These things I just find funny and they crack me up because they are so absurd in comparison over the years.

I am not knocking any blog and I certainly don’t mean any offence and I really hope you don’t take any. Just laugh at the absurd and don’t think about yourself,

I cannot blogger blogs for that reason. I usually leave as soon as I realise it is using blogger. Wordpress is so much better.

I’m with you on the blogs where you have to subscribe to leave a comment, I didn’t know about the google id thing but I like to comment anyway, I’m opinionated. My other peeve, blog awards, but I need to pass this one on so here you go, I love your wit here’s a Triple Award:

The blogs that I hate most are all based on these paid to post ideas. Every single post is a badly disguised advertizement. Most of them get paid for the link in their post, some use an affiliate program.
The blog posts are all totally unrelated to each other and do not have a general theme, just because they ‘had to’ squeeze in that lousy post that would get them paid a few bucks.
I vowed to never add such a post to my blog. Money or no money. I don’t mind to add an ad or link that really fits with MY blog. But I won’t change my blog to fit with an unrelated affiliate link.
It might take a long time before I can make some money with the blog, but at least I won’t have to feel like a blogwhore selling herself out for a 5 dollar link.

Hey I was inspired by your post! I remembered reading about the “no follow” in blogger some time ago, which mine is. Being a newbie I had to search for the answer and removed it! Thank you :)

Well, you got me really worried about my blogspot blog. But I checked and the comment page does have a slot for name and url. And the comments do have links back to the commentors blogs. Phew – breathe again. I really enjoy reading your posts, and am going to give you an award when I get around to it. Now I guess you’re going to say awards are another pet hate. Well, you don’t have to acknowledge it unless you want to. But do come on over and leave me a comment, please.

I guess I need to check my blogger blog to make sure the comment part is okay. When I pull down the drop box, it does have a selection for URL, as well as Wordpress and other IDs. I usually just comment on Blogger blogs with my blogger ID. I don’t usually think of linkbacks, just what I want to say. Of course, I’m usually half asleep when I do so because I do a lot of commenting at night, so maybe that explains it.

My pet peeve are the Today blogs. I can’t tell you the number of times that I have written these long, thought out comments, only to hit submit on them and the comment just disappears without any indication that comment moderation has been enabled. I emailed a few people the first few times it happened, but now I just usually click out of those blogs without bothering.

As for the pet blogs, I write a lot about my pets. It’s not a pet blog per se, and I don’t do baby talk but sometimes my animals are all I can think to talk about that day. I see you mention your dog as well so do you just have a problem with the baby talk aspects or the minute by minute play of their lives? Just curious.

As for the commenter hating the paid posts blogs, I do paid posts myself, and I work really hard to make each one sound like a story. I always have interim, nonsponsored posts as well. I understand that there are a lot of bad sploggers out there where every single post is paid and poorly written. These are the ones where the posts are usually 3 sentence apiece, have a lot of “hubby” mentions, and don’t have a good grasp of the English language. Please don’t judge an entire group of bloggers who are just trying to make ends meet by the bad apples, especially as there are plenty of bad apples who don’t do paid posts as well.

Sorry the comment is so long, but this is the second post that I have read today on this topic, and it’s making me a little argumentative.

Staci…The items in my list weren’t really pet peeves just things I find funny. If anyone glances around my blog they would see a disclosure page :). I love reading animal blogs and baby blogs and love to read all about everyone’s animals and babies.

Hey, I just wanted to clear up over here, as opposed to the comments in my own blog, that I know you weren’t talking about my blog in particular, and I get that you found the things funny. The comments, however, were going the pet peeve route, and the paid post comment in particular was what I was referring to. As I explained in response to the comment you left on my blog, I was already wound up by the “7 Bloggers Who Should Die” post that I read elsewhere so when the comments here started going that same route, as opposed to keeping it funny, I was reacting to that, not the original tone of your post.

Ugh. Okay, there I go being wordy again. I guess you can add the commenters who write essays to your next “crack me up” post, LOL.
