I remember my mother was horrified when she saw the tiny little diamond chips on the side of the opal ring I -wanted- as my engagement ring, but it made me very very happy. My daughter has just got engaged and they've chosen handcrafted engagement and wedding bands - with no diamonds, because neither of them want to contribute to the diamond industry's exploitation of native miners. And I think that's just awesome.

I'm with you on this--simple , not flashy for the rings. Gerard let me pick out mine too. We went together and was quite fun if you didn't let the price scare you away. We both picked out the rings we liked and I was thrilled with mine. I didn't want anything high either because I had one like that which always got caught on stuff. It has little diamonds embedded into the ring and I love it as far as rings go. Perfect for me! I am not big on any jewelry except a watch. I do have to know what time it is at all times.

It's funny because like you, I didn't want a big tons-o-diamonds ring when I got engaged and married. And I've always loved my solitaire, but now I sorta want one of those BIG round Diamonds with a few more on one side. Why? I don't know? It's weird.
