Some people are lucky as far as winning contests and raffles and stuff like that, but I don’t happen to be one of them. I like to enter contests online and when HGTV had their dream house contest last year I entered and even put the picture on my computer so I could visualize living there. I thought so many positive thoughts I felt my head would explode. I didn’t win. Of course  we wouldn’t have been able to afford the taxes on it either.

I love looking at all the new products that come out, but I can’t afford any until they’ve been on the market for years and become common place and the prices drop drastically, like the microwave it was years before I got one of those and a DVD player, same thing. All good things come to those that wait which is fine because I don’t have to have something the minute it’s out. Just like going to the movies I know eventually I’ll be able to see it on TV. Most of our friends have huge plasmas, but we still have the bulky 32 inch.

We’ve been looking at the plasma televisions, but we probably wont get one because our other set is still good and since we are frugal we’ll wait till prices drop lower. Bill told me that a guy he works with won a 42 inch plasma plus a party for 30 friends from our local radio station for the super bowl. I asked if they gave him a mount or plasma stand with it, but he said he didn’t know. It certainly wouldn’t have bothered me to buy my own after winning all that, but I’m never that lucky.

If we do decide to get a plasma I’d rather have it mounted on the wall I think and get rid of the bulky hutch because our TV room is so small. I’m sure he will have to pay taxes on it since it was a contest, but he didn’t tell Bill that part only about all the food they provided for the party. I have never won anything, but then I don’t sit by the radio and try to be the 10th caller either. My Son won a few things by doing that when he was young like tickets to a concert and t-shirts.

I’m not a winner either. And for the TV, you can see by the photo on my blog today, we’ve still got the chunky box TV too. It works and sometimes it lets off some loud squeal that dogs can hear for miles, but like you said, in this economy….it works. We’ve got a plasma in the bedroom and it sucks. You really have to look at it straight on to get a good picture, which drives me nuts.

I think all that gadgety stuff is more for the guys anyway. Let’s wait to win the big stuff–you know, like diamonds, or big giant houses, or money, or vacations!!

I’m in the same boat as you…never win anything while all around me are winning. Yea, you do pay taxes on all those winnings so I hope people have something stashed away when they play all those contests.

I feel your pain. I have never won anything either, and i don’t play the lottery. But every time someone at work asks me to buy a raffle ticket for whatever cause I do it, but of course I never win.

I, too, still have a 32″ hulk t.v. but it is still a good t.v. so I hang on to it. I guess winning isn’t everything but one win would be nice, no?

I have had minimal success at winning contests or the like, such as winning $80 from the lottery once.

But most of the time I don’t bother because I tend not to win any prizes and if I do, I get disqualified for some technicality.

Like the time I won a prize at a bridal shower and was disqualified because I was friends with the sister of the bride’s maid.

When my son was a teenager still at home, he too use to call into the radio stations and won a few prizes. With the calls being long distance though, I’m not sure it was much in the way of a good trade off.

Have a wonderful weekend Jude

I’m sure our success in life is not measured by the size of our T.V.’s I’m with you – frugal – so if it’s working just fine, it doesn’t need replacing. And as for luck, what’s that saying? The harder I work, the luckier I get.

If you ever replace your set, don’t get a plasma TV. From what I’ve heard, they suck electricity like you wouldn’t believe. LCD is the way to go.
