I think Today.com is taking over the blogosphere. I only noticed this recently because of the people I drop on from Entrecard. Before when I would open 10 or 15 sites they were mostly blogger blogs with a few regular blogs mixed in. Now when I open the same amount it’s a mixture of red t’s and orange/with white b’s I’m amazed at how fast Today.com is moving. I wonder if Google is worried that they’ll take all their bloggers? I really haven’t checked the site out, but I’m sure Google has and who knows they may even buy them out like everything else.

We all blog and comment for different reasons and everyone wants traffic for various reasons. Whether it’s to lower the Alexa rating or for advertising purposes or just to gain readers and friends and get comments. The best traffic I receive is through Entrecard, occasionally I get someone from Stumble and other sources, but my SEO isn’t the best so my traffic from search engines is minimal. If you do a search for mature I am on the 4th page, senile=2nd page, mature senile=1st page.

I am an Entrecard dropper and I have been since March last year 08, however at that time I had 3 blogs and was dropping for each one for various reasons. I was also posting on all 3 blogs and trying to come up with different subjects for each one. It kept me occupied till December when my Son passed away and since then I have basically only posted to this one because I refer to this one as my living blog. I don’t claim to be a writer, but this keeps me occupied.

I appreciate all the support that was given to me during the rough times and I tried to make sure that I gave everyone link love that supported me, but I really don’t expect people to comment on a post I make because of it. I do however appreciate any and all comments just because you feel like it and I also comment on your post when the subject reaches me, but that’s also not a guarantee. It’s nice to make mind connections and read about other peoples lives.

I like reading different kinds of blogs and finding different perspectives on how people feel about the things we all face in life and their solutions for dealing with them. There are many bloggers out there that question the things they write about and wonder why anyone would even bother to read what’s on their mind. I certainly don’t expect everyone that stops by here to be interested in my opinions or to even appreciate my weird sense of humor. We all blog and comment for different reasons.

Nice post.
I love commenting on other blogs, and hope that others do the same on my blog. Only if it is a comment worthwhile though.
I make commenting on other blogs a daily thing. Every day I open a series of blogs and read the latest post.
I have to say here that more than half of the blogs aren’t worthwhile reading or commenting on. There is a lot of crap out there with only paid-per-post posts, advertizing stuff that they don’t care about, and not much real reading to do.
I enjoy your real ‘living’ blog here and therefore show my appreciation with a comment.
Keep the good work up!

I certainly appreciate a “living blog” more than the “how many ads can I stuff into a small space” ones! My own blog was created to promote my jewelry, but I find myself posting quite a bit about stuff that’s going on in my life. I enjoy your blog very much!

Hi Jude

Since leaving Entracard, I’ve experienced more traffic and my bounce rate (which indicates if visitors read more than the page they land on when coming to my site. High bounce rate says they don’t go to other posts before leaving) has dropped as much as 20-30%.

I think this has to do with my having more time now to do SEO type maintenance.

I think there are people out there who would be able to relate to your site and posts.

You share experiences, thoughts and feelings that that many people experience, but feel alone while dealing with them. Your site would let them know they are not alone. I know it does me :)

So if you decide you would like to try some basic SEO maintenance (I’m no SEO wiz), let me know. I will be glad to share what I have learned so far.

Have a beautiful day and keep up the good work you are doing here. :)

Hi again, I don’t post comments on every blog, I guess in my mind if I don’t have something constructive or something worthwhile to add, I don’t want to post comments just to be posting. Your blog is one of the first ones I look for at Adgitize, I just enjoy reading, even tho I may not comment. Also thank you for reading and commenting on my blog, it doesn’t get many comments lol, so I cherrish the ones I do get. I’m getting old, and not too sure I can claim Not Senile lol.
Have a nice day

I agree with your other commenters. I read your posts because you always speak from your heart. You are also right about the proliferation of Today blogs. What is that?

I have roughly 100 blogs in my feed reader so when I do click through and leave a comment, I do it because I really want to… because I think I might have something to add. ;)

I love Entrecard, but I’m really wondering about the bounce rate…

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I visit every day but often don’t know what to say. I enjoy commenting but it takes up a lot of time so I try to limit it to the ones that make me think I must say something. However it helps if there is a conversation of sorts going on. Oh, I do think your blog is funny a lot of the time. Keep it up!

I like that term: living blogs. Even blogs that aren’t littered with ads and PPP articles are sometimes “dead.” It makes me sad when I see a blog with an interesting topic that the author just kills by going on and, and writing in a style that’s more suitable for a text book than for communicating your love of a subject.

I’ve also noticed the number of today.com blogs using Entrecard. It was actually today.com that got me started with Entrecard because I knew I needed to boost my readership. Alas, I wasn’t given much time to grow, so now I’m on Blogspot. I suspect that a lot of the Today bloggers are in a panic, trying to get their readership high enough so that Today will keep paying them. Good luck to all of them. Some are among my Entrecard faves, and I’d hate to see them disappear.

while I can’t speak for everyone, I am a today.com blogger and certainly not in a panic…. Today offers a great deal of support to bloggers …and I make a heck of a lot more money by blogging with them… I don’t have the time, energy or inclination to bother trying to monetize my own domain blog… when I make close to $100/month on Today (easily) ….. doesn’t begin to compare to the pittance I have generated on flitting.org

I’ve also noticed quite a few Today.com blogs, but I doubt that they’ll take over the internet. After all, they only pay out $2 per 1000 impressions for the first month before they decide to take you on as a paid blogger later. Even then, I imagine that their rate isn’t all that high, though my thinking is the public exposure for the blogger would be quite good.

Also a Todayer (been there for months now). Granted, the rate isn’t good, but it’s something (heck, it’s a minor miracle I’m still being paid per post!), and being able to focus on my writing rather than technical details like hosting and finding advertisers is nice. I think without that little impetus, I probably wouldn’t've taken the plunge. But at least I’ve gotten really good at meeting self-imposed deadlines.

Oh, you know I just love to come over and “chat” with ya! I’m all about writing and telling a story and that’s why I like your blog. Sometimes I comment, sometimes I don’t–like you. And that’s okay. You know I stop by often and that’s all that matters.

Blogging is a lot of work and I’m starting to hate the whole dropping thingy. It’s exhausting. I just want to write on mine and read others that are good. I hate wasting time on dead blogs.

I enjoy posting very much and also reading others blogs and exploring new ones though Entrecard. I comment on those I feel I have something to contribute or that I feel strongly about. I blog to meet other bloggers and as an outlet for some creativity. Of course, I started the blog about my dad to promote my book, but through it I’ve made some blogging friends.

Just found your blog through Entrecard and I was moved by this post. Sorry about your son.

When I drop on Entrecard it always takes me forever cuz I have to stop and comment on so many blogs. I love blogging and the opportunity it has offered me to learn about people I would not otherwise have ever met. I’ve made quite a few good friends through my blog, one even flew out from France to visit me and we had a great time. If it were not for my blog I never would have met her. I greatly enjoy reading your blog, your honesty and quick wit are refreshing.

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. I admire you greatly for remaining so strong in the face of such heartache.

I wish you all the best,

Jane

I can pretty much say that Entrecard is my main source of traffic but I’m also trying to incorporate SEO stuff on my site to gain more readers outside of Entrecard (but I really have no clue how it works). I also don’t deny that I have a couple of PPP posts on my site but I make sure to keep a balance with real posts and paid ones.

You are right that we all blog and comment for different reasons. Normally, I’d like to be a silent reader but when I find the urge to comment on a certain blogpost, I do so. A friend of mine who introduced me to blogging told me that the rule when visiting people’s sites is to leave a comment on their posts or shoutboxes. As for me, I really don’t follow that religiously as I find it hard to comment on some sites. I just hope that we don’t get pressured with having to leave a comment on blog sites we visit. Afterall, we have our own reasons on our actions.

P.S. Sorry to hear about your loss. I have no idea. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to keep your focus. I really think you are doing a great job.

Take care

Hi Doi thanks for stopping. I hate to feel like I’m obligated to comment and I hate for others to feel that way. Like you I don’t follow that rule of commenting either if something catches my attention then I will. This past year has seemed very unreal to me like a nightmare that I’m waiting to wake up from.
