Thank-you all so much for your comments. I had him in the tub last night because I'm afraid he will get an infection so I wanted to clean him good, but he did nothing. We are taking him to the Vet today for an x-ray and he hasn't peed since yesterday so he's either being stuborn or he's blocked. Again thanks so much for the support and concern, they are our babies.

When it gets warmer, if you have a pool or know someone who does, you may try him in that. It's supposed to be good for dogs with leg or back injuries because it allows them to work their legs without all the strain. Theoretically, since your dog is small, you could fill the tub up and try it. Be careful though. Just because they're dogs doesn't mean they know how to dog paddle. The first time I put Bella in my mom's pool, she started sinking. I had to play Baywatch and grab her before she drowned.

Martha--My two dogs have both had surgery involving their legs. One of them tore her ACL when she stepped wrong off the doggy steps I have in front of my bed. I've actually considered doing what you're doing or buy a platform bed so they won't hurt themselves again.

I really feel for you. Puff is almost 11 and has arthritis really bad in his front right leg as well as his hips. I have him on meds but he's so independent that he won't let anyone pick him up to carry him upstairs. And since he sleeps with me he has trouble getting on the bed. I 1st took the "feet" off of my bed frame. He still had trouble getting on the bed. I finally took the frame off the bed completely and have nothing but bricks on all 4 corners to keep it from being totally on the floor. He can get up now but I'm not sure for how long. It's amazing what we do for our loving "children." And that's exactly what they are and have been from the day we get them. I love Puff as much as I do my 3 grown kids. I'll say a prayer for you and Shadow.

Aw, sad for you and your doggie. I admire you for trying so hard to make him comfortable and help him. We seem to go all out when it comes to our pets, don't we?

So Sorry to hear about your doggie. I know it must be hard to watch someone you love so much be suffering. Hugs to you!

I feel your pain, really I do. I'm having very similar issues with an aging dog. Mine still gets around some but not well, we have to help him by wrapping a towel around his rear end. He's just recently started the incontinence and that is driving me crazy. I may have to try those puppy pads, my floors can't take much more. I hope Shadow gets better soon.

I'm praying Shadow will start walking again, or at least try. It's not an easy situation for any of you.

Has anyone suggested water therapy?

It's a worry. Whether it's mental or physical. And Shadow is getting LOTS of attention! What more can you do?
