Bye To Ethan/Entrecards' New Plan

Posted by: jude   in Mature Not Senile Misc

My DIL brought Ethan by to see us today before they head back to Kentucky tomorrow. He’s such a pleasant little dude even when he is sick and I hated to see him leave however she did say she would be back in August for his first birthday and she would send us pictures. I certainly hope she follows through and I really hope she will move back up here eventually.

After they left I was checking e-mail and Entrecard and checked their blog and the forum because of the announcement that was sent. I was surprised especially in the forum at how upset so many people are with the decision that Entrecard made to monetize the widgets with third party ads and to make it possible for people to sell their credits.

I think I read all of the threads so I would know what was going on and both sides made some valid points. I personally will continue to use Entrecard and don’t think the ads will be distasteful, but we shall see. I have no problem with where they want the placement of my widget because it’s always been above the fold. They were going to make that mandatory, but have now changed it somewhat.

I also read some of the comments about leaving Entrecard or being forced out if you post for Today.com because they don’t allow 3rd party ads from other programs. I’m sure the Entrecard team really do not want to lose those bloggers and I know those bloggers don’t want to lose this source of free traffic. I’m sure they will come up with a solution.

Everyone of course has their own opinions and I’m quite sure it will all be voiced tomorrow. Weekends are really not good traffic days because people do really need to spend quality time with family instead of on the computer. I need to get some sleep so I’ll say goodnight.

Glad you got to see Ethan but I’ll bet August seems a long way off right now. I’m also going to stick with EC and so far I haven’t seen anything upsetting for me as having the widget at the top of the blog pays off as far as I’m concerned. I’m actually looking forward to seeing how this will play out for the better for us. If not, we can always just not use the service anymore. have a great Monday.

I was wondering when EC was going to bring in 3rd party ads. Lately I’ve been struggling to do a lot of drops, I have been more focusing on visiting blogs I just really enjoy. I feel bad dropping and running, and it’s just so time consuming. I do like the traffic though. I am really really curious what type of ads these 3rd party ads will be. I hope they’re decent ones and not skeevy ones. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m so glad your DIL brough Ethan by one more time so you could visit, and how nice you’ll see him for his 1st birthday too! Hoping and praying she decides to move back so you can have even more time to spend with him!! :-)

I’ve seen this happen so many times. People get upset before they even know how it’s going to work out. They threaten to leave, don’t leave, or come back eventually, or wander around, trying to find something that works as well. It will all blow over, and new members won’t even be aware that anything has changed.

This is worrisome for me as a Today.com blogger. I don’t know what is going to happen with all the changes, but I hope that it works out that they don’t force us out of entrecard!

I agree with Chris. Probably I’ll stick with Entrecard. Had planned to discuss this too on my post tomorrow. Maybe by then I will have some other thoughts. I agree that I hope they solve the problem for the Today blogs because there are so many of them I like!

Read about the Adds Last night or was it today already? anyway I think it is okay for the 3rd party adds. The only thing concern me is having to pay for an add I wouldn’t want to promote. I read they would charge for denying an add. I want to know more about that. But I will stay with Entrecard.

I just don’t understand. I read the e-mail and although I understood the words, I didn’t understand the message! So I will sit tight and see what happens.

I’m sticking with Entrecard. It will be nice to cash some credits. As for “control” over the advertising, I’m sure there will be “checks and balances”.

Ya know, when you think about writing for today.com (and I seriously considered it), they pay you a piddly amount based on traffic, and then tell you that you can’t have any advertising that puts money directly in your pocket.

Somehow that doesn’t wash in my book.

I’ve stuck with EntreCard through the paid-ads, closed forums and other non-sense. But now that it has been sold off, I’m serious reconsidering my stand. The time it takes for the drops is just another reason for me to consider dropping EC. Plus my own traffic system, “Along for the Ride!” has proven it is capable of generated clean targeted traffic without the “hit and run” bunch…
