People are going nuts at the Entrecard forum because of all the new ads they are having to approve or reject and many are really ticked off because they aren’t getting a percentage for showing them on their widget. It took me quite a while to read all of the threads. I’m sure many don’t check the forums so you can go to your advert settings and click one of the options below:

Allow paid ads only if the ad is for a blog
Allow paid ads only if the ad is directed at your category
Allow paid ads only if explicitly approved by you

I don’t have any of those ticked off so therefore when I check there is a line of paid ads for me to approve which I have except one from myself. I thought I’d give it a try just so I can show support for the idea and see how it works.

Hopefully they will iron out all the kinks and be able to smooth all the ruffled feathers. I certainly would hate to see Entrecard fold so I hope this works out. I know what I pay a year for just my expenses so I can only imagine how much theirs would be.

Do you absolutely hate this new idea of sharing space on your Entrecard widget or are you like me and go with the flow? The majority that I approved were from the regular bloggers just taking advantage of the cheap exposure. I did notice if you put your cursor on the widget you can see if someone bought it down below the end will read type=paid.

EntreCard has been one of the best ways that I’ve used in bringing exposure to my blog and I fully support them in their efforts to bring in some money that will allow the site to continue operating. I think that a lot of the complaints that are being received are a little premature until the bugs are worked out. Most people get set in their ways and try to avoid change without really giving it a chance!

I love reading your blog by the way and will continue to do so!

Cheers!

I’m quite willing to give it a chance, but when I changed my advert settings into: “Allow paid ads only if explicitly approved by you”

I was punished by throwing me out of the system, so I can’t receive ads at all, and I’ve been lowered in the chain, whereas I’ve dropped 300 per blog all weeks and months to get the system going.
Those who worked very hard are now pushed aside like we’re dirt.

I’m sorry, but it feels bad.

Hi, Thank you so much for explaining this. I’m traveling and am a little overwhelmed trying to know what all this means at Entrecard. I still don’t understand what everything means on the settings, but now I know where to start!

Good Morning! (I love your site by the way!) :o)

I have been somewhat dazed by all the ads and I’ve only denied a very few because of content, but I too want to support ec because it’s brought me a lot of traffic and new friends.

I just wish I could understand the system better. I thought we were to get paid or get credits for the ads but I”m not getting any so how does it work? If anyone can explain this to me I’d really like to know.

But yes, I was a little unnerved upfront about the ads, but I’m hoping it will help us all in the end!

Good luck to you. I really get tickled when an ad comes in from someone I’ve known on ec. That means a lot.

Blessings to you,

Mother Maitri

Hi Robin- I also love reading your blog and the way you see things.

Hi Laane- I’m sorry there are so many unhappy people at the moment I will cross my fingers and hope things smooth out quickly.

Margo_I’m happy I could do something helpful this morning.

Mother Maitri- My understanding is by approving the paid ads you are supplying Entrecard with money to buy back credits if you want to sell them, but you get nothing for having them run on your blog.

Have a great Sunday everyone peace and love.

Oh Dearie Me,

I should probably move this to the forum and I will, but I have to tell you that I am aghast that we, who are hosting the ads, get nothing, no ec credits, nothing. I am not a greedy nor unkind person, and I really do want to help ec, but honestly, at this point, my “Real” advertisers, meaning the good ec people who buy their ads by spending countless hours getting enough credits to buy them, well, it seems patently unfair to cut their time in half, and then we don’t get anything.

I am a minister working in so many directions I can hardly breathe some days but I am diligent about getting as many drops as I can for my three blogs everyday. I’ve accrued points for a couple of weeks to be able to buy an ad from a blog that I loved, inotherwords, I’m not ever going to accrue enough points to sell them and make any money. This seems patently unfair.

We were given a free system which went on for some time, and then there were changes and now, ec is the sole beneficiary of the monies/points taken in. I think the bloggers who allow ads should get something for their efforts. If they are going to go fifty fifty on the time an ad runs vs a blogger who worked hard to get the points, then I think the one hosting the ad should get half of what ec makes. It’s a win-win solution and only seems fair. I’m happy with points since I can never accrue enough, and the ads now can get frighteiningly costly to buy with our ec so some of our favorite site we will never get on, and then WE are saving up lots of e-credits to advertise on favorite blogs but will only get half the time. If this will be the case I won’t take ads but from people I know here, and I will be very careful who I advertise with. If I have to save up a LOT of points to advertise somewhere and then only get 50% of the time, it’s not worth it to me to spend so much time dropping when I’m losing out in both directions.

I haven’t been abe to sgn on to entrecard in the last few hours and I’m thinking that their system is crashing for the over exposure of ads.

Mother Maitri, deeply saddened and perpexed by this whole situation…

I am assuming the huge increase in ads is temporary as they get the kinks worked out. I am approving all ads unless I see obvious offensive language on the ad itself. I always drop on my advertisers first, so there are a lot of new blogs to visit–but of course, not all of these ads are members of Entrecard, so they don’t all have widgets and that’s frustrating. Like you, I am anxiously awaiting the announcement of how all of this is going to provide actual INCOME for us!

I changed to “my category only” and still had a zillion unrelated ads. So I just rejected them all. It would have taken too long to check out each site individually, and they were obviously not my category.

I wonder how long it will be until mine shows. It would be nice if we could have a double widget box,one side for each. Thanks again I am popping ove rto check those boxes now.:-)

I chose to accept ads related to my category only and still received over 30 ads in my “paid” que today, many of which were totally unrelated. I’m certainly not wanting to spend any EC to buy ads because my ad will never run at this rate. This has put a whole new face on EC and I’m just not sure as to what the outcome will be. It seems we’re earning fewer EC, although, the stats aren’t being updated, so it’s difficult to tell. I hope the kinks are worked out very soon.

The queue for the paid ads is horrendous. And the 50/50 display rule they alleged is not working. More like 70/30, paid ad / ec credit ad respectively. In the adverts setting section, I checked all of them. Not sure if I will get a warning from Entrecard. I have rejected many paid ads because they are just “annoying.”

I have really enjoyed Entrecard until I am now completely confused. The best thing that is happening is that I am reading new blogs I may have missed and many are commenting on Entrecard! I am not alone out here with my confusion. Most of what I read is bloggers are not so happy but willing to see how it all flushes out. I think I will go with that and see what happens. It would be fun to get paid without even knowing why, haha.

It’s the blatantly raunchy sites that are paying for advertising that is getting to me. It’s ok if an occasional site has nothing to do with my blog, but use of the “F” word has no place on my blog even if it is relevant.

I’ve been watching this closely, and haven’t completely decided my reaction. I expect it will shift over time.

Initially, I was approving all paid ads. However, since it does nothing for me, and hurts the advertisers that I care about, I’ve now changed my strategy and only approve paid ads for blogs that I read regularly and enjoy. (Yes, I approved the ad for this site).

Likewise, I look at the EntreCard Link. As a general rule, again with the exceptions noted above, I do not click on paid ads. They are a generally a waste of my time to visit.

With that, instead of chaining off of ads, which is how I used to do a lot of my surfing, I’m now surfing off my inbox, which further decreases the value of EntreCard ads.

I have noted that my traffic from Adgitize ads have now exceeded my traffic from EntreCard Ads

http://www.adgitize.com/?affid=342

So, I may start shifting more of my focus there.

I will do some analysis of the ads as we move forward, but I’m figuring, I’ll give it a few days to settle.

I can’t be bothered to check with the forums. My widget is reserved for advertisers buying ads with their EC credits; they deserved 100% airing time for their hard-earned credits.

I understand that EC needs to generate profit to keep their site running and I believe they can generate income from advertisements on their site and not through paid ads like this. They could learn a few tricks from Google. Most of their services are free to use and they are also one of the biggest companies around.

I’m with you Aldon. I’m getting better hits from adjitize and my CMF ads. I don’t want to quit entrecard but the entrecard we all knew and loved is gone and will not return. They may change a few things to try to appease those who are upset, but you better believe they are going to get their money and not give their paying advertisers any less time and so on. And there are now more and more ways to advertise elsewhere. I have stayed in this community for so long because I have come to care about so many people here, love so many blogs here and have really made dear friends. But more and more of them have been quitting ec since the first word of these changes was made.

You know, here’s the thing that’s clinching it for me. NO, the 50/50 is not working. And I don’t know if any of you are experiencing this, but since they started the paid ads, which you never get pending e-mails for approval for, at least I don’t, they just jump out at you like a scary jack in the box, I now don’t get ANY e-mails for ANY ads, regular ec ads or otherwise.

And WORST, and what hit me so hard this morning I nearly cried, I have been very loyal in this community and do you know that once the onslaught of ad buying started, I have not received ONE regular ec ad bought on points dropped FROM ANYONE. The ads there now were there last week and my 3 ads had 1024/768 and 512 respectively. Now that everyone is BUYING ads, hence its’ easier for them not to have to spend so much time dropping, I’m not getting ANY regular ec ads on ANY of 3 sites. It STOPPED the very day the paid ads started. Last week I got quite a number of regular ec ads on all of my blogs. It broke my heart to realize that. I have continued to drop like mad, especially since I put up a new blog a week ago. I’ve literally worked my hiney end off and accrued lots of points because I really wanted to do a good ad campaign for the new blog.

I feel betrayed by ec who clearly set up a system so they would get money, but the regular advertisers still have to drop their panties off so to speak to to get the points to advertise, only to still have to pay high prices for some of those ads but only get very little time comparatively on that site we dropped abovesaid panties off to get!

My advertisers have clearly stopped advertising the old way to buy ads and I am watching my ‘worth’ ON ec go down the tubes. That was the clincher for me. With that said I have decided to leave entrecard.

I will let the regularly purchased ads from ec droppers go through, ALL paid ads are now being cancelled on principle (And I’m so sorry to those of you whom I held dear and who bought an ad, but most of them I never heard of. I will give you an example. This morning, my most popular site was down from 1024-768 down to 256 and dropping, I have 8 regular ec ads and 28 paid ads (count em, 28! And I let them in because I *thought* we were going to be compensated in points or something for
“allowing” them to USE our sites, and that’s after I rejected some. Also, a handful of people are buying multiple ads on the same blogsite??? Huh?

I am a new minister building a ministry, my mother is in endstage cancer, there are friends who need me, and they have all suffered for the time it took me to drop ec’s which now don’t even matter anymore.

It breaks my heart, but I am indeed leaving.

My widget will stay up until the last regular ec ad has run, but I can’t take all of this brouhaha in my life. It is taking a terrible toll and I am done.

I hope you will all stay in touch and I will advertise with you through other means… I love you dearly and wish you well, I mean that with all my heart.

Before I close I would like to say one last thing that I know will be on people’s minds. Some of the other ads, like CMF, we will also share adspace on, HOWEVER we haven’t spent hours and hours a day dropping cards to earn the right to advertise on it. I can get an ad for a month for as little as a quarter on CMF. A whole MONTH. And I have received very good return on my ads

WE built entrecard. Yes Graham and his team created it, and offered it for free, and built it’s popularity on the backs of the people spending hours a day dropping cards to buy ads. It was a lot of work but we were happy to do it because it was bringing us good traffic, and giving we we don’t have money to buy advertising, a way to do it and a wonderful community to do it in. Now that the community is built, OOPS, they need money and we are the ones that are going to be hurt by it while they make money. As I said, it is on principle to me. It is not fair. I understand they need income but they way they are I send much love, blessings and know, those of you who know me, that all of my work will continue, and I will miss you terribly, but will not be here. I’d love to stay in touch so write to me so I can keep in touch with you if you like, and I will be listing, as I wait for my ec ads here to end, all the sites I love so I can keep in touch with you.

With tender love and an aching heart,

Hi

I hope noone will finally decide to leave yet because it is early days and we don’t know how things will work out once they settle down a bit.

I have carried on dropping the same if not more, applied for the same number of ads from credits and paid $10 to show some support for the new paid ads because I thought it best to see how things go.

But it has now become clear that it is very unfair for those accepting paid ads not to be given any reward for doing that at all and I think Entrecard needs to be aware how much resentment that is generating among the members. Practically every site I go to and in the forums people are complaining it is unfair and that their applications for adverts from credits have gone down.

Perhaps Entrecard can be persuaded to start making rewards for accepting paid ads in the same way they were persuaded to drop the fee they were going to charge for not accepting them.

It is an obvious disadvantage and members can make clear to Entrecard how unfair the current system is so far. I hope that happens before any good members leave.

I used to enjoy chain clicking Entrecard because that was a way to get exposed to blogs that I might never have noticed before. I discovered a lot of fascinating blogs that way. Now? We hit a dead end with non-blog ads. It does not take much to turn off the consumer and that is what is happening.

Why does Entrecard not allow a choice? Offer different types of widgets. Offer the basic single widget we all know. But offer a double size widget, one with blogger ads and the other with paid ads…and let those who take this double widget share in the revenue. Let only those who carry the double widget cash in their EC credits. Then we’d have a choice. Heck, allow people to choose a 3 or 4 sized widget if they want even more extra rewards. Entrecard could have developed a savvy marketing scheme if they thought it though. I bet most people would have picked a double size widget if they get benefit from it. OH well! They better wise up fast.

Question, is the ad you want on my blog a paid ad with entrecard?

I wish I could understand the whole new entrecard concept but I don’t. I have a lot of reading to do so I can understand it.

I assume it is like Google pay-per-click, and know what I think entrecard owner started this new pay-for-ads program so he can sell the whole thing to Google.

Google is swallowing up all the good fun and Free programs like Twitter they jus bought them out.

This will be the last post I’ll leave here because I feel rather embarrassed about running off at the mouth so to speak, but rather than leave in haste I’ve made a major change and this is in the short run. If ec doesn’t “pay” via ec credits, the people who accept their ads. then I will most certainly leave. All of my ad settings on 3 blogs have been changed to accepting those who earn their ads by accepting other ec droppers only.

So, a small part of what I actually wrote to EC is at the bottom, but I would like you all to go to Aldon’s blog and read his newest entry about how all of the different kinds of ad sites work. It is so amazingly wonderful that I feel like I understand a motherload of things I never did before.

Love to all,

Mother Maitri, ec post in part below…

“I have gone in and checked that I will accept ads ONLY from REAL entrecard users bought the real way, ec points only. If this bears fruit I will stay. The ad system is a mess past belief. Not only are we all obviously being inundated with so many paid ads the system is crashing, ads are showing up on ALL 3 BLOGS as approved when I did NOT APPROVE THEM, EVERYONE is noticing that the 50/50 rule is not working and the paid ads are taking up far longer than their share, and really, you should never have dropped such an enormous bomb on a loyal community of people without having kinks worked out. You offered us free space and then pulled the rugs out from under our feet. WE are your bread and butter. Allow paid advertisers on the site pages on ec, get an underwriter, do something, or there won’t be an ec left to advertise on!

I wish most sincerely that this can be worked out before I go for good. I have and will remain with real entrecard ads only, but if I’m not going to get enough ads to make it worth my while, then I’ll have no choice to leave. I’m giving it one last chance.
