Today we put a roast in the crock and took a bike ride down to Long Level and watched the boats and people fishing. It looked like it was going to rain, but we went anyway and it was fine. We had a very nice ride even though it was cloudy.
Yesterday we went to Weinbrenner in Hanover and took the trike shown below out for a ride, this was our first ever trike demo. The guys were very nice and even gave me a helmet to use so I could test ride it with Bill. It was very strange and the back end sways a lot I told Bill it felt like I was in a boat and I might get sea sick.
I want Bill to get a trike so we can ride up into our 80’s so if he’s going to do it, it might as well be now while he can afford it before he retires. I really expected to have a smoother ride though since there is 3 wheels instead of 2, but it wasn’t it was the worse ride I have ever been on, but I didn’t tell Bill that.
Tomorrow he will talk to his credit union and the bank and Tuesday they open back up so I guess he’ll make the arrangements then before someone else snatches it up. I know he really wants it, but it was so funny because riding a 2 wheeler compared to a 3 wheeler is very different and something he will have to get use to.
You do not have to put your feet down when coming to a stop, plus you do not have to maneuver the bike to turn where you want it with your balance instead all you do is turn the front end, but that’s hard to get into a bikers head. You do not lean all you do is turn the front wheel, he was so afraid he was going to drop it.
When we left Winebrenner we went way across into the other lane because he was trying to turn it with his weight instead of simply turning the handle bars it was so funny, thank God a car wasn’t careening down the other lane. I know those guys watching were a nervous wreck thinking Oh, God did we really let those people take that out.
He did manage to get it in the right lane and off we went for our demo ride. This man has been riding bikes since he was 15, but a 3 wheeler is totally different you can not use the same technique as a regular bike. I know we will need lots of practice, but I know he’ll get the hang of it in no time, but it was funny watching him lean.
Usually when he leans with the bike so do I, but I was staying straight up and so was the bike only he was twisting from side to side trying to make the trike do the same as a bike and with 3 wheels it wasn’t going any where. I figure Wednesday or Thursday we’ll bring it home. They are going to switch over our air horn and running boards.
I love the seat we have on this bike and I hate the one on the trike, it’s so hard, but I guess I’ll break it in eventually. I dread it though and I may even need a seat belt with all the swaying side to side I may fall off the stupid thing. Oh, well a new experience is in store for Bill and I and anything that will give us more years to enjoy what we love doing is fine with me.
