2 Days Without My PC- Bummer

Posted by: jude   in Mature Not Senile Misc

I had to put my pc in the shop on the 29th and thank goodness they only had to replace the supply source it wouldn’t turn on at all. I just got it back this morning and when I plugged it back in the monitor wouldn’t come on it just kept click click clicking, in a panic I called Bill at work and he told me to call the technician back and that guy told me that he couldn’t tell me anything without seeing it which makes perfect sense of course, but he did say that it would be cheaper to buy a new one than have it worked on.

So I started calling around and the best price I found was at Office Max they had a 19 inch wide screen on sale for 119 dollars. He also told me to bring mine in and they would check it to make sure it was the monitor and not a video card. They weren’t far from us so Bill came home from work and ran me over and of course I forgot the power cord to my old one and had to come back and get it and go back again. He plugged it in and it went nuts so I got the new monitor.

Bill dropped me off at home and went back to work. I unpacked it, put it together and it wouldn’t turn on and I started to panic again so after I calmed myself down I went back over everything and checked all the plugs and I didn’t have the power cord all the way in, what a relief like magic the darn thing came on. So I started to check everything and when I loaded my blog with this huge screen I saw the header wasn’t centered and managed to work myself up again.

Since I had modified the theme I had it off center, but on my little 15 inch screen it had looked fine so I didn’t realize how awful it looked. It took me an hour to figure out what I did wrong and fix it so if it doesn’t look right to anyone I would appreciate someone letting me know, thanks in advance. Now that I have that sorted I can get on with normal things. I apologise to those from Entrecard for not being able to drop, but I did manage to get a lot of things sorted on the home front in 2 days.

I just noticed there’s no where to plug in my speakers on the monitor, but I’ll deal with that later. Take care everyone and have a great weekend.

My desktop computer won’t turn on and it’s so frustrating. I don’t have any idea who to take it to to have it checked out. Who did you take yours to?

Hi Lynne,
I’m in PA so Bill took it to someone that services his company’s business. Check in your phone book for computer repairs and tell them your problem, but best to ask around your area. All I can say is thank God for my Bill. I honestly believe he was given to me as a gift so I must have done something right or he knew I needed someone in my old age…. Sorry didn’t mean to go on about Bill…Hope someone can help.

I had the issue with the power supply quite often. Where I live, electricity isn’t everything. Lots of spikes and quite often the power goes off altogether. I know I would be a lot safer with a UPS, which everyone around here uses. But I’m too stingy again to spend money on something that you can’t play with. Instead I pay for a new power supply every once in a while….
Luckily I live right next to a computer repair shop and the mechanic doesn’t mind to drop in during lunch break or so.
I find it really hard to separate from my computer for two days…..

Have fun with the new monitor. I hate when I have to change things and then adjust everything!

Hi Jude

I was beside myself when my computer went out over the winter. I wasn’t able to get back online for a week! I was most worried about my site. Fortunately, it wasn’t a major expense to fix it, which was a concern.

To go with your tag from June, there is a surprise for you on my site :)

Now this is weird. I too had a blown computer and suffered for 4 days without one! It was an old, old computer, and the motherboard died. Now I have a new laptop, but no way to get to all of my files. At least you got yours back!
