Where I live, electricity isn't everything. Lots of spikes and quite often the power goes off altogether. I know I would be a lot safer with a UPS, which everyone around here uses. But I'm too stingy again to spend money on something that you can't play with. Instead I pay for a new power supply every once in a while.... Luckily I live right next to a computer repair shop and the mechanic doesn't mind to drop in during lunch break or so.
