I Hope I Live To See My Shrubs Fully Grown

Posted by: jude   in Home and Family

When I moved in with Bill 6 years ago we had talked about putting up a privacy fence, but the borough we lived in didn’t allow them back then so when people started moving out because of that they changed their rules, but by then I had already planted some shrubs and I didn’t want to up root them. I had never planted anything in my life so they were like my babies.

Of course I didn’t realize I was suppose to give them plenty of room to grow in the back so I planted them way too close to the fence. I had bought 5 very small shrubs which had cost 5 dollars a piece so for 25 dollars I figured I’d have my privacy in at least 5 years since the information I read said they would be the 15 feet high growth in that amount of time, either they lied or I did something wrong.

As you can see in the picture they’ve grown a lot, but not any where as high as the 15 feet they’re suppose to be so I’m guessing in another 5 years I might see them grown and finally have my privacy. We’re so close to our neighbors that if you open your door they’re right there in your face. So of course the following year I decided to plant a couple on the other side and this time I got 2 that were close to 5 feet to start.

Of course I had to put fences around anything I tried to grow because Shadow loved to lift his leg and help me water them. He actually killed one before I could get a barrier up. I wish I hadn’t been so cheap and got the 5 foot ones to start with for the other side. I’ve tried growing other plants over the years, but none seem to last for me. I always manage to do something horrendous to them, well gotta go do some weed whacking before it rains.

Hi Jude

I planted trees right after buying a house several years ago. Unfortunately, I decided to move before the trees grew very much in height. I often wonder if the people who bought the house from me kept the trees.

Enjoy your trees and the knowledge that they’re still there :) Wishing you Love, Harmony & Prosperity dear friend

Hey, Jude! I have some extra fertilizer, a LOT extra fertilizer, compliments of Odin! I bet your trees would grow feet in a few months. LOL Actually, horse manure works very well, so if you have a farm nearby where you could pick some up, it might give you that kick you’re looking for.

It looks like your bushes grew well to me. You should see our little Rhodedendrum bush. We planted it 7 years ago and it was supposed to grow to 5 feet too. It’s only about 2 1/2 feet and grew crooked! I think all the snow the neighbor piled on top of it has stunted its growth.

Hi Theresa you’re right about the horse manure we had a mushroom company here in PA that would come and buy all the manure I mucked from the barns years ago. I really don’t know any local farmers and I’d feel silly just randomly picking an Amish family and asking for their manure besides Bill wouldn’t let me put it in the jeep :).

Hi Karen, sorry about your Rhododendron bush maybe it’s a slow grower like my burning bush, it also seems to be taking forever.

Great to see you Lea I hope all is well and I really do love my bushes such a joy seeing something green during the Winter. I’m sure the people that bought your house are totally enjoying those beautiful trees.
