Just Another Boring Monday Post

Posted by: jude   in Home and Family

I am always amazed at the amount of dishes it takes to cook for just 2 people even if you use a crockpot, might as well cook for an army. I went to bed early last night and this morning the sink was full, I hate night before dishes with dried left on mashed potatoes and gravy pans, yuck what a mess. We had roast beef, stove top stuffing, mashed potatoes, and peas and carrots. It was great of course, but the clean up mess wasn’t very inviting this morning.

We stopped at a road side stand yesterday while we were out riding and picked up some local grown strawberries which are delicious and the smaller they are the sweeter they are. I cut them up and added spring water and a little bit of grenadine and let them soak and the juice picks up the strawberry flavor. I know lots of people down South that add tons of sugar to make the syrup, but I hate that really sweet syrupy taste and all that sugar is horrible to balance out your bodies PH level.

We also picked up some new potatoes, sugar snap peas, and ham which we are having for dinner tonight. I just finished preparing the snap peas and will add them later because they don’t take that long to cook. Bill likes cornbread with this meal so he’ll make that when he comes home, he likes his better than mine. I grew up using yellow cornmeal, but he prefers white because that’s what his Mother used. I never mess up as many pots and pans as he does and I will certainly make sure everything is clean before I hit the bed tonight.

This past week Shadow has been letting me sleep in the bed till around 3 in the morning, but that’s because Bill has been falling asleep in the chair beside him and not waking up and coming to bed till around 2. It sure does feel good to be able to stretch out and rest. I’m loving all this nice weather and we certainly have been enjoying the outside as much as possible. I’ll have to start typing some posts in advance that I can publish on a time table, maybe less personal posts because I’m sure people get tired reading about my personal life all the time.

It’s so true! I cook (once in a while) for my hubby and myself and whatever I make lasts so long that we get bored eating it or it goes bad long before we eat it all. I hate throwing out food!

I for one love your more personal posts. I can read about this that or the other thing anywhere – but I can only read about YOU in one place – and that’s here! :-) I enjoy reading about your thoughts and your opinions and even the every day stuff – like riding your bikes or how Bill likes his cornbread. I’m sitting here eating reheated leftover lo mein wishing I could join you for your yummy ham dinner! :-D

Hi Patricia,
We normally give leftovers especially if it’s soup to Bill’s kids and my brother can always be counted on to help us get rid of anything.

Hey Carole good to see ya, I’m sure you’ve been too busy with your property and Geocashing to be reading very much of anything since it’s finally turning nice, but that’s nice of you to say. You take care and I’ll be over to visit ya.

Even if I don’t get the dishes done after dinner, I always put them in the sink with water so I don’t have the dried problem. But, actually am pretty good at cleaning up as I cook, so usually it’s only the handfull of dishes and the last pot used. Crock pots though aren’t the easiest to clean. I tend to only use it during the cold winter months, as I’m very much a seasonal cooker.
