Bounce rate doesn’t bother me, but apparently many bloggers complain all the time about the crappy traffic they get from Entrecard. I get crappy traffic from search engines especially when they are looking for mature sexual activity from and about old women and are expecting to see pictures, how long do you think the perverts stay on this blog? My stats tell me that the average visitor is 1 min 11 seconds.

For those that are involved with Entrecard I’m sure some of you will like the change that they are planning to their system and others of course will balk. The email said they anticipate those that are power droppers will be yelling the most because they will now have to interact before they get credit. Does it really matter? If people are interested in something they will react.

I don’t want anyone to feel like they have to leave me a comment or do anything when they stop by my blog. I certainly don’t want a lot of insincere gibberish that I have to sift through. I appreciate the traffic and my Alexa makes note of it. I personally have met a lot of nice bloggers through Entrecard, but I certainly don’t want to feel like I have to leave a comment every time I visit.

I usually go with the flow so it really doesn’t matter, but when and if a program gets too stupid and doesn’t make sense to me anymore then I just leave. So far Entrecard hasn’t reached that plateau for me even though they have done some pretty stupid things in the past I still find them useful and I’m grateful for the traffic whether anyone interacts with me or not so thanks for your visit.

I agree with you – I don’t care about my bounce rate either, and I don’t want people to feel they have to comment in order to get a credit from Entrecard. Things will play out in their own way, and we always have the option to leave if we don’t like it.

Hello, i thought this month i would start a Comment contest… for qualified comments i pay some ECs… if someone is interested in a blog or read some articles, it’s great to see a feedback from the readers. If this should be now the case or if it’s just a hidden timer (like 30 seconds stay) it would be also ok for some blogs.

When i look at my stats, only from Entrecard then 90% of them stay less than 10 seconds, if i look at the Adgitize traffic they stay up to 1 minute. There i can see a big difference in terms of “quality” and blog hopping.

Have a great time, i hope it won’t be an to extreme formula which they have invent. I guess otherwise the traffic won’t be anymore that much!!

I will be interested to see how they implement it – I suspect it will be ugly.

I’m usually on a blog for under a minute – but I DO read if anything new has been posted – at least the first paragraph or so

But I have 4 Entrecard accounts and only READ on whichever one happens to hit on new content

But then I hardly bother with Entrecard any more anyway …. too big a timesucker

I suppose that those who have a constant stream of new content and/or interesting content will be the ones to benefit. I guess I should spend more time on my blogs and less on my facebook! :)

I drop about 150 a day and I only comment on blogs that interest me. I don’t want to have to comment on anything and everything. I like EC and will hopefully be using it for a long time.

I’m kind of torn. I don’t like people that run multiple spam blogs (I just learned the term “splog”) just dropping for a few seconds. Bounce rate does seem to reduce my keyword ranking, but on the other hand I have met fabulous bloggers through EC.

I think that the key is really better screening of blogs before they’re accepted. I don’t understand how there can be so many exceptional blogs on EC, and then others that look like they spent about 30 seconds creating a post. To me better screening is a better solution than requiring more interaction, but we shall see what happens.

I comment when I have something to say. And like your other commenters here, I stay on a blog site long enough to read new and/or interesting comment. There are other traffic exchanges where you can only move to the next site after a certain time – I don’t have a problem with that. But making people comment is a waste of everyone’s time.

I’m not sure this latest idea by Entrecard is going to work.

I do care about bounce rate myself, but I also know not everyone who visits my blog will be completely interested in it.

I’ve noticed when I return drops, that many don’t update their blogs for weeks on end. What comments or interaction can you have then?

I think it’s goofy.

If I visit you regularly, which I do by the way, and you haven’t posted in a few days – then how am I supposed to “interact” with your blog?

SIGH!!!

We’ll see, though. It depends entirely on what type of algorithm they plan to use.

Entrecard was a traffic builder. For those concerned about bounce rate there are probably other avenues. Up until now, I’ve put up with all the changes at EC and all the glitches in their system. This new plan could be the one that pushes the final exit button. I’ll have to wait and see.
I used to be a dedicated 300/day dropper, but the last few weeks, there have been so many EC issues, I am admittedly not quite so dedicated. I choose to drop on my favorites and, if time allows, will do some reciprocal drops on non-splog accounts. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for EC, but I certainly enjoyed reading your well written post.

Me too…I don’t care about bounce rate. And if anyone just happen to spend 2 seconds on my blog, I don’t care either. I also don’t have to spend some time on a blog and read everything and comment, as much as I don’t require them to.
Entrecard ‘s Graham should listen more to the complaints about paid ads not about the bounce rate. He devised this for reciprocal traffic—so what does he expect? Of course, high bounce rate. Did he ever plan this system before he launched Entrecard? He created Entrecard for reciprocal traffic and get points. So naturally, the outcome is its high bounce rate. I really wanted to get out of Entrecard a long time ago. But because I get some traffic here, I’m quite hesitant. But if ever Graham is going to come up with crazy and ridiculous ideas that don’t really help at all or giving more pain in the ass for bloggers, I will really get out of it.

i just got done leaving a comment on entrecards blog saying almost the exact thing. i don’t care about bounce rate either. this place is for, what i thought, to build traffic to your site. i joined as i thought it would be a good place to meet new friends, read interesting posts, maybe learn something new. i don’t comment on every blog i read, hell some i don’t even read. everyone has different interests and not all blogs are going to be read by all people. the ones complaining i’m sure are doing the same thing they are complaining about. so this is going to hurt them also. just seems like a bunch of drama to me. bounce rate, sheesh. not like you’re going to get rich off of ec credits.

the thing he should do is still give the credit for the blog that is being dropped on and if the dropper isn’t sticking around long enough or whatever, they don’t get that credit. cuz it’s not the dropped on’s fault if the dropper doesn’t stay. getting tired, don’t know if that made any sense…hehehe.

I too do not care about bounce rate. I just appreciate the traffic, enjoy the sincere comments, and find it’s a great way to discover more blogs and build relationships with other bloggers. I usually drop from my favorites list and read and interact when something interests me. It still takes up much of my time. A high bounce rate is just a characteristic of a blog. I do think though that clicking on a link is also considered interaction. I have a couple widgets on my blog (feed cats and dogs & animal rescue site) along with lots of links to other blogs that people can click on which is faster than leaving a comment. I really rather not have 70 comments a day to read through. I just wish EC would quit trying to manipulate us.

I suspect this will be yet another “great idea” by Entrecard that falls flat. Don’t you just love how these guys fly by the seat of their pants all the time? throw it against the wall and see if it sticks. At least when one of their brainstorms is a total flop they’re willing to reverse their decision or at least consider doing so.

Even though Entrecard brings in crappy traffic, it is still traffic. It counts for Alexa rankings, or raises your price in Project Wonderful, which earns me a few more cents than it would without crappy Entrecard traffic.
Besides, it is your job to have traffic convert into readers, or subscriptions, etc.

I see in my stats that after I post a new post, my bounce rates drops to like 50%. So, Entrecarders still read my posts. Of course they do not hang around if they read that same post already yesterday. And the days that I do not post, bounce rates jump back to 80%.
Just keep your blog interesting and updated, which you are doing very well, Jude. I like your blog, have it under my favorites and I would not worry about bounce rate either if I were you.

I really appreciate all your thoughts about the situations we’ve been through with Entrecard and certainly agree with them.

With each new development we lose some great bloggers whether they choose to leave or for weird reasons they get deleted it’s sad.

Of course I can always visit without Entrecard and do, but not on a daily bases because they aren’t on my schedule and I hate losing touch, but it happens.

At any rate it would be nice if they would work on the kinks they already have instead of creating so many others to contend with as so many of you have mentioned.

Have a great 4th and be safe.

EC is still stirring the pot I see.

The only concern regarding bounce rate is for getting search engine referrals, as bounce rates are used as an indicator of reader interest. Another thing to keep in mind is it involves whether visitors click on links after arriving on your page or if they just “bounce” off the page they entered on.

All EC members would have to do for each other is, after arriving on a site, click on a link before leaving. That means click on a link after dropping your card. After the second page loads you can leave. The downside of that is, if the same post gets bounced from enough, it will affect search traffic referrals.

I may not have been commenting, Jude dear, but I have been keeping up with you and Mature Not Senile.

All my love to you and your family :)

Very frustrating this whole thing. I really enjoy reading certain blogs but I don’t comment because I feel I don’t have anything relevant to say. I’d like to think that people who leave comments on my blog feel the same. I don’t expect someone to comment on every post either, that is just ridiculous to expect that from readers whether they like your blog or not.

I don’t care much about bounce rate either, because think about how you read blogs… not just bad blogs, ANY blogs… you read the front page! Usually you don’t click on any other pages! Normally, I am a “bouncing” visitor for ANY blog I read. Entrecard doesn’t make a difference, I would probably have the same bounce rate with or without it.
