The York Harley Plant May Be Vacant Soon

Posted by: jude   in Harley Seniors

The Harley plant in York, PA may be history soon according to our paper, officials are looking at 4 possible new areas in different states they may possibly be moving to. That means over 2,000 more workers will be in the unemployment line. I don’t think I want to debate unions, but in this case I think the unions around here are greedy and not really looking out for it’s members. Yes, workers should have rights and feel like they have a leg to stand on when they go up against management, but you can’t feed your family if you push too hard and run these companies away.

The union did it to Caterpillar in York back in 1996 and now we have the same thing happening to the York Harley plant. That plant is one of the most coveted places to work around here and these union officials and members as far as I’m concerned are fricking idiots. Do I have friends that work there?  Yes I do!  Do I think they are greedy and idiots?  Yes I do!  Will I tell them that to their face?  Only if they ask me what I think about the situation! Will York be a ghost town soon? Many businesses have already shut down and a lot of events that helped our economy no longer take place.

Ed Rendell is even getting rid of PA government employees, he has no fricking budget and can’t even pay them, some have been working without pay for quite a while. Who knows maybe the whole PA state will fold under this Governor. Maybe along with trying to sale the turnpike he’ll negotiate to sell the whole state. That was an attempt at humor by the way. Our country has so much compared to others and we take way too much for granted, especially the Harley union workers right now as far as I’m concerned.

I hope they still have York Bike Week this year, but if they move it may all stop, even bike night in downtown York. This event in September draws bikers from all over and really gives our local economy a boost, the Harley Plant is the big sponsor of this event. We have noticed over the past couple years that it seems to be dwindling, even the parade through town seems to be getting shorter. There was talk about fining people with loud pipes a couple years ago, but I haven’t heard anything lately about that plan.

We have always enjoyed York Bike Night in past years, but it’s no longer the same. Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend, take care and be safe.

I have to agree with you, even though I have many union friends. Well, they aren’t in a union to be my friend—you get it, right?!

Unions are killing industry. Teachers unions are destroying the schools they are teaching in and the autoworkers….well, you know what is happening to them.

My old man was a machinist and a union man who hated union management as much as owner management.

I’ve worked in and outside of unions in manufacturing, government, and service sectors.

What originally created unions is still there (a need for universal health care and the right to organize to combat evil and stupidity), but everything went wrong when education turned to being relevant and the country expanded the military industrial complex to include a prison industrial complex that has turned the U.S. from a nation of ugly Americans into a nation of miserable fucks.

Everything now seems based on mass-debation and who can shout the loudest so that the rest of us can hear their pain. Thank you, Bill Clinton.

Political, religious, community, business, and union leaders respond accordingly turning the shouters into whiners and the cycle begins again.

I knew a guy once who paid a guy to crush his arm at a warehouse so he could finally join the union after multiple hires and layoffs with the same company and obtain a living wage and benefits.

You want a lawyer joke?

Look around. The past century has been one endless lawyer joke.

There is no punch line, unless you like getting the shit beat out of you by the law.

As far as I’m concerned unions should have been obsolete about 40 years ago. We have no need for them any longer as we did decades ago. Employees are quite aware of their rights these days. Even if they aren’t there is a lawyer’s commercial on tv every 10 minutes to remind them. Witness the auto industry.

Unions were a good idea when they first began. They protected workers from horrible things. Now they go too far. It is sad to hear about the Harley plant.

There are many reasons why our manufacturing jobs have left this country and the irresponsible union demands are only ONE of them. Look up Ford Brazil Plant on YouTube and see why Ford didn’t need a bailout.

Will Ford eventually pull out all of it’s US manufacturing? Taxes, environmental laws, union demands and profitability will tell.

America needs to wise up…no doubt about it!
