Entrecard Credit Change Good/Bad?

Posted by: jude   in Mature Not Senile Misc

I’m thinking with the new change that will take effect at Entrecard on Sept. 1st with only the person doing the dropping getting a credit there may be a lot less advertising on other peoples blogs. What would really be the point if your not going to receive credit? Of course your blog would be out there and you might receive more readers, but I’m thinking there will be more chain droppers since no one will really be concerned if someone returns their drop or not and there might be a lot more dropping. Of course I could have that all wrong. Have an opinion?

Buggy over at Cute As A Buggy passed her award on to me and I appreciate that she included me in her list of blogs so thank-you very much. I never know who to pass these to or who already has them so all I can do is post the rules and if you want it please feel free to take it with my blessing because there are many blogs I love and if I listed them all it would take forever.

1. Copy the image above.
2.Pass the award on to the bloggers you feel deserve. As many as you like.
3. Leave a message or a comment with the bloggers you give it to, notifying them of the award.
4. Leave a comment on the blog of the person who gave it to you.

Update: I didn’t want to repeat posting about this same award so I’m adding this postscript with appreciation to AuntieE of 2 Good 2 Bee for the kind words and bestowing this one on me. I’m indeed honored.

I thought the same thing about Entrecard. I’ll continue advertising for more readers, but it does seem like it lessens incentives. I’m hoping it’s a temporary situation, but who knows.

I was not happy when I read the email this, sure seems like it will diminish dropping, visiting, and advertising. I don’t see any plus to this at all. People will have no reason to reciprocate. It’s making me wonder with all the things not working lately if it’s going to go by by completely. They’ve taken away points for posting, which I thought was an incentive to people to post often and not just have a huge page of ads, now they’ve taken away incentive to reciprocate posts…both reduce the ec credits one can earn to purchase ads.

Cute award, I’ve not seen that one before.

I didn’t know about this until I came here, but I guess that just gives me an even bigger reason to pull the widget off my blog. Sucks, but I’m no longer a huge fan of entrecard as I once was.

I’ve been out of entrecard for a few months now and honestly leaving was the best thing that happened for my blogs. Traffic is now higher than it was with using EC, bounce rate is lower and I’m getting quality comments across all 5 blogs. The recent changes to EC with it being ‘acquired’ aka repossessed from Graham by the original investor had the potential to either improve greatly or continue the downward spiral. I fear it has been too little, too late to pull EC back up again. There have been reports of paid ads running again even though they aren’t supposed (Chilly of On the Bricks), more down time and now the incentives to participate are quickly waning. IMO and setting all other EC problems aside that 300 daily drop IS the problem. It’s a time waster for bloggers who are only interested in the points. It’s a time waster for bloggers who see their bounce rate go sky high. The worst part is that even if you are quite active retaining EC traffic from other bloggers you met if you leave EC is going to be sporadic at best. I will be interested to see how the latest changes with EC are welcomed. Grumblings are already spreading through Twitter.

To be honest, this doesn’t really bother me because I’m happy to receive a visit, whether or not I get a credit.

However I can understand how a lot of people will lose out, especially those who don’t drop much. Plus this will not solve the inflation, just reduce it slightly.

There’s an alternative mathematically proven system which would make the Entrecard economy stable. Droppers and published would still receive their credit. I’d be happier to see it implemented.

I’ve been pondering how this will affect things too. I have my network of EC bloggers where we always reciprocate drops and often exchange comments. I specifically drop on their blogs and I usually avoid dropping on the 90% ad blogs. I like that these bloggers are rewarded by getting credit for my drop because they have a quality blog that I want to drop on. I feel bad that they won’t get that extra benefit anymore.

This just doesn’t make any sense! I’ve all ready seen a huge reduction in the number of click throughs on my running ads, I hate to see yet another reason for people to not drop.

I think this is to increase the paid ads. What we’ll have are just droppers and no more readers. What’s the use of writing if no one reads your posts anymore? I don’t know what EC’s up to?

Increasing my blog traffic is my concern… and not getting credits. It doesn’t bother me at all.

This is the first I’ve heard of this one. Not sure how I really feel about it, but time will tell with EC. I’m having fun with it, but it is VERY time consuming. Thanks for sharing this.

The latest move by EntreCard will be a disincentive to advertise since part of the reason to advertise has been to earn credits through people dropping on the blog.

That said, the major reason is to advertise is to get traffic, and that is not going away.

It will change the economics, but EntreCard has not present a clear and compelling case about the need to change the economics.

It seems as if the bigger problem is that other sites like Adgitize and CMF Ads are drawing away more and more business from EntreCard and that is their real problem.

I’m getting more traffic from Adgitize than I am from EntreCard now.

Unfortunately, for EntreCard, there latest move seems to compound their problem by getting people to look more closely at Adgitize or CMF Ads.

I’ve written more about this on my blog.

My two cents,
Aldon

I think we’re all looking for people who actually read AND comment on what we write. Sure, pure traffic benefits some, but if you truly care about your content, a real fan as opposed to 10 hits, is always preferred.
So how will the new policy impact us? I’m just going to wait and see. I’m just learning the game.

Ok, here comes the cynic in me. Maybe Entrecard is announcing this so we all blog about it and complain. Then people who don’t know about EC will see the name out there and join up.

Ok, either that or EC will tank because bloggers are tired of EC’s games.

It’s really going to hurt me very much. I am on satellite and it is all I can do to get 100 or more a day in.

I will stay but i think they are moving in the wrong direction. I think if they lift the 300 a day it would help more than anything.

i also enjoy visiting, reading and commenting while I drop. I am not a power dropper. I just don;t know about all of this. it seems like every time they make a move forward they turn around and go 2 steps backward.

To me it makes sense that the person doing the work (dropping) gets the credit. The rest was a nice bonus. I’m in it for the traffic, not the credits. And if it will help bring the price of ads down so more people can afford them, so much the better.

The credit thing doesn’t matter to me. I’ll use up all of my credits over next two months and then see.

What matters the most to me is the EC toolbar. I’m sure glad that they finally made one that is Firefox compatible. Ever since FF 3.5 came out, I’ve been reducing my dropping. Now I can drop frequently again.

Yes I am not sure about this. I blogged about it on one of my blogs. Even commented on the EC blog page. I do not see how this will help me. I will have to wait and see. But will drop on those who drop on me. i just do not think people will be willing to drop. And I can not afford to advertise on some good sites
