We went to the York Fair Saturday night and it’s reported as America’s first fair which was held in 1765, 11 years before our nation was founded. If you want to read more of the history of the York Fair you can find it on their website. If you would like to take a virtual tour of the historical place that I live and see the great architecture you can visit Virtual York, A Journey Through History. I think you’ll find it very interesting.

The photo above I took from my balcony and for 9 days when I was out there I could see this monster swing with people going around and up and down, no way would I get on that thing now, but when I was younger I’d probably have been the first in line. Below is the actual ride up close, not sure if you can see the swings my camera’s batteries were getting weak.

It was daylight when we first walked over and these are a couple shots from my angle as we entered. We paid our 12 bucks to get in and we were on our way. The only reason we went was to get Bill some Bricker fries, pretty expensive fries if you ask me, but it’s his money he can blow it any way he pleases. We stopped at the Toyota building first because I wanted to watch the children visiting the farm animals and to sit down for a minute.

I took pictures of the other animals, but this Mommy and babies seemed to be a big hit with all the children and adults. We soon had to leave the farm animals because the smells from inside were just to overpowering. So we sanitized our hands and ventured on. We stopped further down in one of the other buildings and watched a Kitchen Craft cooking show. I’d love to have some of that cookware, but I don’t think we’ll be spending 700 dollars for one piece any time soon.

We walked through the midway above and then walked some more and I was getting tired. I saw several people I hadn’t seen for awhile, but Bill didn’t see anyone he knew which was weird. We stopped and watched the mechanical man below and he is so good, it was funny at one point when he was almost done Bill got almost right in his face because he wasn’t really sure if he was real and then the guy all of a sudden set down his cup and walked off, not sure if he was disgusted or had to pee in a hurry.

We walked up further to see how far they had gotten with the Vietnam Memorial which is to be dedicated October 3rd and saw that they did have some of the bricks down and a nice base finished for the sculpture as you can see it was dark by then so we rambled through the kiddie part and made our way home. The fair just isn’t what it use to be any more, but the kids still love it and it’s fun to just sit and watch people.

Looks like you had a pretty fun time though. I always liked the Children’s Farm section the Cleveland Zoo used to have years ago. Those piggies reminded me of it. We used to like going in to hold gunia pigs and rabbits. Then they changed it and now they just have goats and miniature horses for the kids to pet.

A fair is always fun, and one of my favorite things. I was always afraid of that ride with the swings though. I can ride everything else, but that one seems out of control, to me. My favorite part of a fair is just seeing the sights, like that pig and the mechanical man.

They had lots of funnel cake, but we were too full after the fries and Bill didn’t even want to take any home.

Bill has diverticulosis which is common in old people it’s a weak spot that pushes through your intestine and forms a pocket and seeds and stuff can collect and cause a virus or abcess and you have to take antibiotics to get rid of it. He doesn’t eat corn, peanuts, popcorn and now he is staying away from skins on beans and tomatoes so to my knowledge potatoes fried or any other way doesn’t bother him.
I didn’t see the tent, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there, no way could I walk the whole fair, but they had a beer truck
