I’m sure many people know where to test their site to see what your loading time is, but many people that are just starting a site or blog do not. I know how exciting it is to start your own blog, but many people get carried away and think the more stuff they add the better it is. Of course after you start running into other blogs that take forever to load you might realize that it’s because of all the graphics and music and videos plus all the fancy widgets for everything under the Sun.

If your blog doesn’t load fast enough you may be losing a lot of visitors. We are an impatient lot or at least I am because when a blog takes too long I simply close the tab even if it was something I really wanted to see. Of course if you are doing EC drops and opening numerous tabs at the same time you can expect a delay with some of the blogs and because everyone likes all those fancy doodads and ad units they will sometimes stall your browser and then you have to reboot.

I don’t really have a lot of widgets compared to many blogs and I did remove a lot of useless garbage awhile back it now loads in 9.1 seconds and for those of you that don’t know where to test the loading time of your blog or site you can use the tool at Pingdom and the following is how they describe the tool. “The Full Page Test loads a complete HTML page including all objects (images, CSS, JavaScripts, RSS, Flash and frames/iframes). It mimics the way a page is loaded in a web browser.”

I’m sure you will find this to be a useful tool, I know I did so now I need to test all my other sites and blogs to see what I can get rid of. Happy faster loading and blogging.

Great article, I’m going to check on my blog. I haven’t check since I switched from Blogger to wordpress. Just a quick question, what pluggin are using for the backlink under comment section there. I think thats a great idea and I would like to add that feature to my blog as well.

It is useful to know. There are several and every now and again I test mine. What’s odd to me is that it’s never the same. Sometime’s people will say it’s loading slowly, I’ll test it and it will rate faster than 85-90% of blogs, which seems pretty fast to me. On another it does it in time and I think last time round was under 5 seconds. Though one would think it would be the same if you’ve not added widgets.

The template one uses can have alot to do with it too I read. What type of a connection the person visiting has is also a HUGE factor, one we can’t control.

Speaking of widgets, there is one I’ve been looking for. Found it a way back, maybe before I got the new computer? Thought I saved link, but it must not have made it to the new computer.

Top commentor? Where 5 to 10 are listed with the number of comments they’ve left. Per chance are you familiar with it that you can point me that direction? I know with your wordpress you have those plug in’s; but this was the one on blogger that did the same thing.

Thanks
Sandy

Really valuable advice. Impatient I am and I almost never wait on a page to load. There is always somewhere else to go. The pages with flashy, glittery, sound stuff take forever and a year to open.

Oh, I’m going to try it now. Thanks for the suggestion. I keep my blog pretty free of clutter–I want it to be a writing blog and not a money maker, so there isn’t a lot in the sidebar.

I check this and a few other tools every now and then. Like others, some say that my site is very slow. Others say that it loads quickly.

Some of it depends on the browser. Internet Explore loads slowly, other browsers load much more quickly.

What Ive found is that over time, tools that I use break and slow down my site. So, I remove them and my site speeds back up again.

I just checked yours Aldon because every once in a while it loads slow for me and it loaded in 12.8 seconds and while I was there I checked Lins and hers was 6.5 seconds I thought both were pretty good.

I check mine often, some times if I’m going to post a video I will change the number of Post shown. This does help my load time. I really do not like the ones that take along time to load. I will come back to them if I really want to visit them. When I have more time. However sometimes it is the service one is using. I know a lot has to be consider when checking the load time.

This was a good reminder for me. I used to check load time often, and I did get rid of some slow loading widgets (too bad, the most attractive ones loaded the slowest.) After that I’ve been a little neglectful, so I just checked again now. Thanks.

I have been wondering how to check this. I had fun checking a bunch of different blogs. Thanks for the info!

Very interesting information! I tested mine it was 7.6 seconds which is pretty good considering the number of widgets I have. I’ve been wanting to clean up my blog but can’t figure out what to take off. Plus I have lots of photos in every post so I’m sure that slows it down some.

Am so glad you posted this. I had no idea there was such a thing out there that could test it for me. Mine loaded quicker than I thought it would. But I am so glad I could test it. Thanks!

Hah, thanks for the pingdom tip… I gave it a try and found mine loaded in 6.5 second. Faster than I expected! But then I noticed it said ‘testing interrupted’, so I did it again, and then it seemed to complete it and said the loading time was 5.8… fun to play with.
