Ad Overload

Posted by: jude   in Marketing Online

I really don’t see ads any more, I tend to just block them out as I’m sure many of you guys do. That’s why I get irritated when I get distracted by a bunch of blinking and flashing widgets, but I guess that’s why they do it, to get your attention.

I’ve had the Project Wonderful ads on this blog for a month or maybe a little longer and to date this blog has made 1.76. That is cheap advertising and like one blogger mentioned it’s a waste of space so I moved it to the bottom of the page so I don’t have to look at it and if it ever reaches 11 dollars I’ll remove it.

I put the Chitika ads on another blog that receives search engine traffic only. It’s been running for about 2 weeks and already made that blog 4.88  so maybe I’ll try it here. I do have the Chitika referral button on my sidebar, but I seriously doubt that anyone will use it so it’s probably just taking up space also.

I did return the Adgitize widgets, but I really haven’t been working that system and there are only 2 (which I have now moved to the bottom because people have flashing widgets which I hate.) I did advertise with them when I first signed up, but really didn’t have much luck so I stopped. I put it back so Entrecard droppers could kill 2 birds with one stone, I hate that phrase and I have no clue why I use it because I wouldn’t want to kill any birds.

This blog makes 2 cents a day from Adgitize so in a year and a half I might make 10 dollars for the space. As you can see I’m very ambitious (not). I really don’t like looking at a bunch of ads myself so I try to keep mine at a minimum.

I noticed that there are 9 advertisers sharing the Entrecard widget and I was allowed to block 4 of them so at least I get a little bit of control. I really hope no one advertises with me for awhile because sometimes I just don’t feel like dropping and I feel like I’m letting those people down when they aren’t getting clicked on.

I really hate feeling guilty so I have decided not to worry about it any more and if they don’t get clicks then they wont advertise again. I seldom ever check to see how many clicks I get from the blogs I advertise on, but I know many people keep track, I’m just grateful for the traffic I do get, so thanks for stopping and reading.

I’m with you, can’t stand going to a blog and seeing nothing but blinking flashing ads. Even worse are the pop ups. I’ve gone to some blogs where they are so full of advertisements that I have to scroll through a couple times just to find their widget.

Hi there Jude. I agree. And Ann, if I have to scroll past huuuuge headers and rows of adverts, I don’t bother. You get to know the sites that are just too much trouble.
Adgitize is terrific. As long as you drop (51 per day if you are a paid publisher) and update every 2-3 days, you cover your costs. And they’re nice people!

I agree, I pay no attention to ads on blogs, especially the annoying flashing ones! I’ve thought about adjitize but decided not to bother, just don’t think it’s worth it.

I didn’t think pop ups and flashing ones were allowed with ec? I dislike them also. some pages have very little content; which brings up the question that I thought 2/3 of the blog actually needed to be a blog and have content, that was updated. Many aren’t updated but once in a blue moon.

I do drop as often as I can, I do check when buying new ads whether or not I got anything from them last time round.

I’ve not and don’t plan to buy any ads on adgitze,l because I don’t want to spend money on it and because I can’t imagine another thing that takes time.

I’ve never heard of chitika, can you enlighten me? I read about project wonderful, but there again you need to spend money? So that’s a no go for me.

I got rid of a few things on my blog not to long ago; but then added others…you read you need xyz so I add xyz…it’s hard to have everything there and not have it cluttered. I don’t know what the best mix is.

Look at my blog–there isn’t anything other than EC. I don’t like a lot of clutter and I’m there only to write, not to make money.

Sandy I know popups and unders aren’t suppose to be used, but I have no clue about flashing ads. I don’t recall ever reading anything against those. It takes very little money to advertise through PW 1 and 2 cents a day and sometimes free to have your widget shown on someones blog. I haven’t advertised with them as yet. I thought if I could make the money through them I would use that, but it doesn’t look so promising. Chitika is free to sign up service for publishers that you can show related ads on your blog and works with Adsense ads.

Lin that’s nice for you, but I would like to make money with my blog at least enough to pay for hosting.

I agreed with the popups and flashes. I tend to just leave their site. I am doing pretty good with Cmf. Still with entrecard and just joined Adgitize on one of my blogs. I will have to check out the advertisers on Entrecard. I haven’t been paying too much attention to them. I guess I should. A lot of info in this post, I’ll have to heck some out.

Many blogs, especially EC blogs, are filled with ads. I have enough clutter with everything else going on on my sidebar, but I do keep the EC one, a text ad or two and recently I was asked to join 5min video (we’ll see how that goes). I have to admit I’m losing interest in EC as many of the great blogs leave and seem to get replaced with more and more ad filled blogs. As long as there are quality blogs like yours I’ll do my best to stick with EC, but definitely the thrill is gone.

I enjoy stopping by your blog Tina and it’s true about so many of the really great blogs leaving EC, but there really are many good ones left. Good luck with the video venture.

Hi Jude,

I agree with you on the blinking and flashing widgets. Some people do get carried away. As a stay at home mom of 3 kids now, I try to make extra money to help out with the bills. It is not easy to do and we would starve on my income now. Just happy my husband works.

I did advertise with Adgitize and I made no money from the traffic. It just wasn’t targeted traffic for me. I did get some traffic with them and I was thankful for that though.

I do enjoy your blog and I also appreciate you visiting mine.
