Our Low Key Christmas Plans

Posted by: jude   in Pappy and Nana

December is a busy month for everyone and way too much stress to clean, decorate, bake, shop, and wrap. Not to mention all those parties and family get togethers for many of you.

I decided not to put myself through any of that this year, the stress I mean so there is no hustle bustle here and if something isn’t done then I refuse to get worked up about it. We have all the Christmas presents for the kids, now they just need to be wrapped.

My decorations consist of my little fake tree which I didn’t even take apart last year because of emotional stress. I just threw the whole thing in a bag and stuck it downstairs so all I had to do was clear off a space to set it up, no mess no problem, decorating is done.

We will have one get together on Christmas Eve with the kids to exchange presents and since it will be somewhere else I will not be cleaning from top to bottom. Bill is going to provide the baked ham, potato salad and baked beans so not a lot of cooking.

If I’m lucky my DIL will bring Ethan for his presents, so far I’ve seen him 3 times since she brought him back here.

We will have leftovers for Christmas Day with a bottle of wine and it will just be the two of us since everyone will be having dinner with the other in-laws. If  it’s not horribly cold we may bundle up and take a trike ride through town with our Santa hats, before the wine of course.

That sounds like a recipe for a pretty good holiday. Hope you get to spend more time with Ethan!

It will be low-key for us too. Our daughter is coming to visit from Louisiana and she is shy and prefers not to be around dozens of relatives.

Sounds like a perfect Christmas to me. We travel to see my husbands parents but we do that a week before Christmas then Christmas eve it’s just me, DH and my kids. Christmas day they go off to spend time with their dad and wherever else. I personally like it that way.

We are sort of low-key too, but I like that. I’m not big on crowds of people and lots of noise. We stay home and have our friends over in the evening on Christmas. It’s nice.

We are low key too. My dad decorated with a little fake tree like that for years. I do the same thing now with that little tree. I do have a 6 ft. one that I still take apart and reassemble each year. It’s nice to have kids for Christmas–so much fun watching their excitement. Merry Christmas!

We are anxiously waiting for our oldest daughter to get home from Italy and then it will be a small Christmas consisting of the four of us. And you know what? That’s OK. No stress of having to clean or cook for company, no packing everyone up to go to someone else’s house. I think it will be a lovely Christmas. I hope your holiday is wonderful!

I love a low key Christmas. It’s the only way to keep the meaning of the season in perspective. This past weekend I took my boys to Toys r Us to buy our angel tree gifts for the needy, and it was amazing. Two boy in a toy store who picked out gifts for others and didn’t ask for anything for themselves, I think it will be the highlight of my Christmas this year. You definitely have the right idea.

Hi Jude,
Sounds like a good plan. That is great that you have the presents already bought for the kids. We do the same with our artificial tree and we put it in the basement to store. It is already put together and that is one less thing to do for the next Christmas. This time of year can be very stressful. I always dread paying the taxes. We will go to my parents house on Christmas Eve. We go to his parents on Christmas day. Have a great night! :-)

Why is it so stressful? I LOVE the hustle and bustle, the shopping, wrapping, the cooking, and decorating, I mean, it’s once a year! And yes I work too; I own my own business.

I am sorry it is so hard for you. I am the mom of four and a new grandma, and our family has many get togethers at this time of year. It’s fun and we all look forward to it.
