Saturday I couldn’t connect with the Internet no matter what I tried so later in the afternoon I finally called the Verizon tech support to see if something was wrong in my area. The tech guy walked me through several procedures and still it was a no go. I was getting very frustrated especially when he told me to flip the switch on the modem and then go to start. I then asked him how I was suppose to do that if I had turned the modem off? When I turn my modem off the whole thing goes off.

The young guy had a lot of patience because apparently I can’t hear right on the phone either and I had to ask him over and over to repeat what he had told me. He finally got to the point of talking to me like I was a child that was mentally challenged. I got so frustrated that I unplugged the whole thing finally and then replugged it. Those little green lights finally started flashing which they hadn’t done before they had just stayed on solid and he said this was a good thing. Finally I was connected.

I thought he had performed some Christmas miracle from his end and started thanking him profusely, but he told me he hadn’t done anything except run some tests to see why it wasn’t connecting and that I had made it connect from my end. I still don’t know why it has started acting weird all of a sudden, but when I need to connect I now have to power down everything and then restart which is a pain because I have to crawl under the desk just to get to the outlet believe me getting up and down isn’t as easy as it use to be.

I probably wont be doing drops every day till the holidays are over, at least not on weekends and not as many during the week so take care and enjoy.

So frustrating! Glad you’re running again. I am going to cut down on my drops as well. Can’t fit everything in.

It’s so frustrating when any computer problem happens but I learned that with any electrical thing, that sometimes if it goofs up all you need do is unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it in and it resets itself. Sounds like that’s what happened here with you. We have to do that with our HD TV every now and then. The screen turns all pink or the picture goes off and that fixes it.

Ugh. And I usually hate those help lines because I always end up feeling stupid. Enjoy your time off from dropping!

Hi Jude,
That is frustrating when you can’t connect to the internet. Glad he was able to help you out. I have dial up service and I seem to have problems almost everyday. Sometimes it will take me about 2 hours just to finally get connected. I think I use this computer to much. lol

Enjoy the holidays and wishing you a great week! :-)

Nothing worse than lost connection. I have a really hard time hearing on the phone and normally have to hand the phone over to my husband. As for the dropping I’ve pretty much cut back to about 50 a day and it’s so much nicer not feeling like I have to get them in.

The modem is always to blame. lol It’s interesting how I’ve had a modem for the past 5 years and never a blink or glitch in it then within the past 14 months suddenly my modem loses its connection at least once a month. I sense something fishy with internet service providers. Perhaps its just my imagination though who knows.

We have to unplug the power cord to our cable modem, and leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds (a full minute is better), every once in a while. I have been told that the modem will reset itself when this happens, and the same also applies to our cable TV DVR when it starts acting really weird. Of course, when the problem is somewhere down the line, I can unplug them as many times as I want without anything good happening.

I’ve had to do the unplug/replug thing several times. It always fixes the problem. The puzzling thing is why is happens at all. I could be going along fine for months and then suddenly I have to reboot the device. A pain, but easy enough to fix.
