Oral Roberts/No Miracle For Daddy

Posted by: jude   in Home and Family

I watched a little of the celebration of Oral Roberts life the other night and was reminded of the night my Daddy took us to one of Roberts tent meetings for a healing. I was 7 years old and we stood in line for hours before it was his turn. My Mama had died only a few months before and I guess he thought Oral Roberts could heal him so he could take care of us.

When Mama was alive she would drag me to all kinds of religious groups, not sure what she was looking for, I even went with her to a snake pit where they worshiped with snakes, that was scary. Also those holy roller churches and all those people would be talking weird and jumping around like chickens without heads, not sure which was scarier them or the snakes.

I am not a religious person, but I believe in God and miracles however my Daddy didn’t receive one that night and they said it was because he didn’t have enough faith or he put more faith in the man instead of God. That was back when Roberts still laid hands on people. I have never met anyone that has ever claimed a healing from any Evangelist, but my sister-in-law totally believed because she sent 200 dollars to Jim Baker and theĀ  PTL Club that she got pregnant.

At any rate my Father died 6 months after my Mother and a few months after the tent meeting so he did get his release from pain just not in the way he had hoped.

it seems that when 2 people have been together for so long and are almost like 1 person, when they pass it is usually within a short time from each other. my grandparents were like that and i know other couples that happened to also.

have a wonderful holiday my friend…hugz!

I never liked the tactics used by the evangelists. Of course my exposure to them was only through what I saw on tv but still I always thought they were creepy.
Too bad your dad didn’t get the miracle that he asked for.

There is nothing more cruel than telling someone that it is because of their lack of faith that they did not get what they wanted. For faith is a gift of our Heavenly Father. Therefore, what they are really saying is that He has cheated them. May they not get what I would have them get in the end.

Hi Jude,
So sorry for the loss of your parents at such a young age for you. I believe in God and he has saved my life more than once. Not sure about evangelists.

I had saw a movie that Jim Carrey played in and his role of dying with cancer. In the movie he went to one of these places hoping for a cure and he had saw while standing inline the person was a fake. I don’t remember the name of this movie, but I think it was based off of a true story in real life.

Sorry to hear what you had to go through. I believe in healing but I have a hard time believing in the instantaneous healing Evangelists claim. I guess biblically speaking it should be possible but I guess this day and age it’s wise to be skeptical about such claims.

Hope you had a happy Christmas!

Hm…I just don’t think I can believe in that kind of religious worship. I’m still trying to figure it out for myself and my own beliefs. Not an easy thing.

Happy Belated Holiday Wishes. As always it seems I’m playing catch up. I’m sorry you lost both your parents at such a young age, and sorry you had to experience those strange things. Things like this drive more people away from religion than to it. Extreme things are very bothersome to me.

I’m always blown away that people send money to these frauds, it’s sad really. People are desperate to believe in something and are often mislead.

Ouch. What a terrible experience.

I have been healed before. But if someone says they weren’t healed because of “lack of faith,” then they are nuts, The Bible does not say that. You probably herad of Kathryn Kuhlman. I think she was WAY better than the kooky evangelists running around making people feel ashamed. Her sermons and Bible studies are online, actually.
