My heart goes out to you. I have an old dog too and I cherish every day she is with us because I know it will not be for much longer. Your Shadow was truly a beautiful dog.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Our bad holiday began back in July and continued to circle the toilet through the end of the year.

There’s nothing to do for the grief except knowing it means you’re not dead, which at times does not seem so appealing.

On the other hand, I have found that watching Gremlins always puts Christmas in perspective, knowing at least no one is stuck in the chimney in a Santa Claus suit.

I was sorry to hear about the loss of your loved ones. Our pets are part of our lives and we love them very much. I never really know what to say with the loss of a child to someone. I was thinking about you the other day. We got through Christmas, the first without Mom. Then we got through New Years, again the first without Mom. We take strength from each other. I know we all feel grief differently; but I think it’s important to keep doing the same things. That’s what those we loved and lost would want.

In a few minutes I’m heading to the hospital. My younger brother is having surgery. It’s a 2nd surgery actually, things aren’t going well. This will be first time we’ve all been there since being there when Mom died. But, we have each other; and will be strong for each other.

Keeping you and yours in my thoughts.

I’m so sorry for your loss of two of your loved ones. Holidays can be hard enough as it is but add in the memory of losing someone close to you makes it that much harder. Big Hug for you and take the time you need for yourself.

I was wondering where you’ve been, Jude. I was hoping that you made it through Christmas okay, and I’m sad to hear your bad news.

I hope you find comfort in the love that you shared with both Eric and Shadow. I’ll bet they are together in heaven, sitting and chatting about how much they love you and how good you were to them both. You now have two angels looking out for you, my friend.

I send you love and hugs, plus strength to get through this very difficult time. You gave Shadow life again when everyone else was saying to give up hope. Shadow is a beautiful memory of faith and love, Jude. Hold that dear along with the love of Eric–and know that life IS beautiful, even though you don’t feel like that these days.

I hope these days will pass for you. We lost my brother to melanoma cancer in 2005 (he was 39 year old) and every holiday season is still so hard on my mother. It’s a tough thing to lose a child. I pray every day that I don’t ever have to understand that kind of mother’s pain. I pray that God will eventually soften the pain. Not to forget your son, but to make it easier for you to deal with the holidays. My heart goes out to you.

I fully agree with FishHawk that one day our beloved pets will be waiting for us with tails wagging. We have a Golden that has been suffering with seizures for the past year even with medication, and I know it will leave a big hole in our family when he is gone one day.

That is definitely too much sadness packed into one month. As for your son, it is true that I couldn’t even begin to find words to express how this must make you feel. I certainly hope and pray that January will be a much brighter month for you.

Hi Jude I know exactly how you feel we lost our little girl on 2 Jan, 2010 and our lives feel so empty without her after the 15 years of joy she gave us. I am so used to her following me around all day and being under my feet that I still look out to see where she is.

We now have a stray cat who has adopted us and is also a distraction for us we have called him Maxi. Stay strong!
