I found 2 WordPress plugins yesterday that I really like the first one is the WP No Category Base which removes the word category from your url. I think my urls look much cleaner having category stripped out and also it doesn’t mess up any urls to any of my pages that are floating around out there already, it automatically redirects them.

As many of you know I’m not very technical so I’m sure I didn’t explain that right so you’ll just have to check it for yourself and see if it’s something you might want for your own blog. The second WordPress plugin is Widget Context and this one I have been meaning to find for a very long time because it makes it simple for someone without any knowledge of coding to change which pages they want to show their widgets on.

I don’t want my blogroll to show on every single page for SEO purposes it doesn’t do my blog much good to have those links on every single post page and that goes for my recent commenters also. For the links the most important is the main page anyhow so those in my blogroll get the juice and hopefully some of my other pages will pick up some rank over time. I also removed the cloud tag widget and will just start adding tags in post.

I am also toying with the idea of making the Entrecard widget only show on my home page because most droppers are only here for a second anyhow, my posts are never very long and only take a minute to scan. I really haven’t been doing much dropping myself lately so I don’t know how much longer I’ll even bother. My search engine traffic is picking up so I’ll just have to start posting about current topics that people are searching for.

The easiest way to add these plugins to your blog would be to go to the plugin icon on your dashboard and click on add new. Then simply type in Widget Context or whatever WordPress plugin your looking for and hit search. A list will come up and all you need do is click on install and your good to go, you then need to activate it.

With this plugin all you do is go to your widgets then click the widget you want to change and at the bottom you will see a window that lets you easily customize which pages you want it to appear, it’s so cool.

I love the sound of widget context. I was able to code something like this on another blog of mine, but I haven’t done it on my main blog because I have so much custom code that I’m afraid to mess with. This sounds like a much better option.

I like the idea of widget context which we can customize what we want to show and what we don’t want to show in different pages and posts. Right now if I put something to show in a single post by editing the code for single post, then that something will appear in every single post. With the widget context, I would have better control.

Don’t plug in’s complicate pages, and make the loading etc slower? Seems like I read that some where. I don’t follow what you mean about removing category? I don’t know that I’m ever aware of what category someone’s blog is except when I’m on EC and might be dropping by category which I do do some of.

I’ve been dropping pretty consistently, and hope you stick with it.

How do you know if your search engine traffic is picking up?

My page rank has improved, and my Alexa ranking has really improved, my webpage grader has too; but how do I know if my search engine traffic has?

I guess anything can slow down a page, too many ads, too many graphics and videos, too many widgets, I guess the keyword would be moderation in all things? All category stripper does is remove the word category from your page urls the link above explains it for those that don’t understand much better than I can, but instead of seeing this “http://jude8753.com/category/marketing-online/” You would see this ” http://jude8753.com/marketing-online/“.

I will still drop by and visit the blogs I like, but not everyday, it’s just too much. Page rank for my sites have gone up and down for years so I don’t but that much stock in it, but it’s nice to see, however having my pages indexed is way more important because we all would like traffic without working so hard for it. My Alexa rank is going up because I haven’t been dropping much since Christmas, but my bounce rate is going down.

I check my stats and it shows me exactly how many searches and the words or phrases and the search engine that brought them to my blog and how long they stayed and how many actions they preformed.

Thanks for visiting and commenting, Jude.

Thanks for the info. I will add this to my list. I have given up on thinking a web page is ever going to be done! I have never heard of these with all the reading I do. Brilliant.
