The older I get the more aches and pains I feel and lately I’ve noticed I groan and moan alot and when Bill asks me where I hurt,  all I can answer is everywhere. I have no clue where one pain starts or ends. I almost feel like a hypochondriac thinking I probably have everything in the medical book because so many of my symptoms sound like everything I read.

I took one of those quizzes and now I really feel bad because I scored higher than I thought I would, bummer. Of course it’s a silly quiz and really doesn’t mean diddly squat. Whoever made it up didn’t even word their sentences correctly before the quiz so it was more of a fun thing for me.

You Are 64% Hypochondriac

You are a bit of a hypochondriac, but nothing too extreme (yet).
You watch your health a little more than you should – even when there’s nothing to worry about.

Are You a Hypochondriac?

I do have a tendency to self diagnose though and after hearing the commercial on television about fibromyalgia I thought wow that could cover lots of my symtoms so I’ve been investigating this further. The following symptoms listed are from www.fibromyalgia-symptoms.org:

Widespread Pain, Morning Stiffness, Fatigue, Vision Problems, Nausea,  Sleep Disorders, Urinary and Pelvic Problems,  Weight Gain, Dizziness,  Chronic Headaches,  Cold Symptoms, Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome,  Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndromes , “Fibrofog”: Cognitive or Memory Impairment, Skin Complaints,  Chest Symptoms,  Anxiety,  Depression,  Dysmenorrhea,  Aggravating Factors, Myofascial Pain Syndrome,  Muscle Twitches and Weakness,  Memory Loss: Is it Real?, Weather Changes, The Menstrual Cycle,  Troubles Breathing?

At least now instead of feeling like a hypochondriac, after reading more about fibromyalgia I will have something they can actually check for and I wont feel bad about telling the doctor about all the symptoms I have. Of course I don’t have every one listed above, but I do have many and the good news is this is not some dreaded disease that will kill me.

I feel the same way most days. I feel like a nut case sometimes. Worst part is when I call the doctor trying to get some relief they usually say “Oh we just recommend ibuprofen for that”. I think it’s time for a new doctor.

There are days I feel like a hypochondriac. Then I figure it’s just that I’m not 20 years old anymore.

Hi Jude, thanks for stopping by my blog. I had a friend with fibromyalgia. Years ago society thought it a fluke. It’s real and can be helped. Check with your doctor, better safe than sorry. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

My gynecologist belittled me complaints about pelvic pain too because he couldn’t “find anything.” However, my neurologist said my pelvic pain was probably fibromyalgia or nerve pain related. They have some wonderful new meds for that now; they help. Don’t give up.

Thanks for the info on FM. I’m always in pain and my doctor says it might be this.

my mother has FM and sometimes the pain is so bad that she’s bedridden for the whole day. i find myself with symptoms here and there which is a pretty good indication that i will end up with it sometime in the future, especially since they are coming more frequently now.

Hmmm, I’m only 12%. That’s good to know. I’m not following in my aunt’s path. She’s a former nurse so anything new that came along…she would be sure she’d get it!

I’m sorta like that too, Jude. But mine is that whenever I have something wrong, I’m convinced its cancer and I’m gonna die. It never is, thankfully. I’ll probably die by getting run over by a bus. :)

I had a friend who years ago was suffering from many of the fibromyalgia symptoms and she went to several doctors before finally being diagnosed. She began thinking that it was all in her head because at the time many doctors didn’t even know about fibro but it has become more commonly diagnosed.

Well, the only way you will know it is FM is to bring it up to the doc…and if he thinks you are a hypochonriac, he shouldn’t be a doctor if he thinks that everytime some one comes in with a problem. I hate dr.s like that!

I was diagnosed with FM some years back, but I thought they were out in left field, and now there are days when I wonder. But, I think the bulk of mine is arthritis.

I did get a good walk intoday though which helps.
