My PHP Fatal Error

Posted by: jude   in Mature Not Senile Misc

Yesterday I added a plugin to cache my pages so it would load faster because Google said my blog was loading slow. Apparently I didn’t have the right php for the plugin to work. So when I tried to check my plugin list and delete it, it wouldn’t let me in.

It said there was a fatal error and I almost panicked till I remembered something I had read on that plugin so I went to my C panel at Bluehost and clicked on the  PHP Configuration and switched that to PHP5 (FastCGI) and tried to get in again still it gave me the fatal error.

Okay, then I panicked wondering what the heck I was suppose to do, was I suppose to contact my server? I made myself calm down and remembered I had a problem like this last year and tried to remember what I did.

The answer was so simple, all I had to do was start up my FTP program and go in and just delete that plugin, but then I couldn’t log in because Bluehost had made me change my password awhile back and I forgot to change that in my FTP  program.

Yes, I did start to panic again, I’m fricking mature and yesterday I felt senile because it took me so long to remember about that stupid password change. Since  my browser stored my password for Bluehost when I changed it I forgot to write it down at any rate they sent me my password and I got it fixed.

Why am I rambling on? Just thought other users that use FTP and have a blog they mess up with a plug-in can easily fix the problem instead of panicking by going in with their FTP, find the file and delete it and problem solved except I’m still slow, oh well thanks for your time.

Now I feel ignorant. I don’t know what any of these abbreviations mean: PHP, PHPS or FTP. I have heard of fatal error–I know that’s not good!

I’m with Karen…I’m aware of ‘error’ and indeed of ‘fatal error’! I get those messages. I’m so lame. Why I try to do is write things down or print screen because I’m aware of my lameness! I keep a binder on my desk where I store these tidbits. Of course the thing I need is never in the binder but that’s another story.

I’ll join in with karen and buggy’s because I don’t know what any of that means either. Well except fatal error. I seem to make a lot of fatal errors.

Thanks you guys for stopping by to visit. If you use Blogger you wouldn’t have any reason to know about any of this stuff so it’s really no big deal. If you’re interested in knowing more I’ll leave links below to Wikipedia.
PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
FTP: File Transfer Protocol

Ah, thanks for the explanation. All I need to know is that using Blogger I have at least two less things to deal with. This girl’s sticking with Blogger.

LOL! The exact same thing happened to me except I did it through a different plugin and was freaking out… Luckily I have a friend that knows alot about this stuff and he told me to delete my .htaccess file and it worked!
