Bluehost Really Ticked Me Off This Year

Posted by: jude   in Marketing Online

I think Bluehost needs to update their website I use to pay 95.40 a year and that included the primary domain name. I’ve been with them for 4 years and never really had a problem till this year. I had it set for manual pay with a warning when it would be due, but for some unknown reason not only did they auto renew, but they raised the price to 107.40 without advance notice.

Usually the primary domain name and web hosting renewed at the same time, but this year the hosting was auto renewed and then I had to renew the domain later. Of course it was free, but it was still a pain in the butt. When I called the billing department I was disappointed with the lady I spoke with because she more or less called me a liar. I told her I had not received notice from them, but she insisted an e-mail had been sent to me.

It was a little late to transfer to a different hosting site, but next year I certainly will. I use my checking account to pay my bills and I always need to know when something is going to be deducted in advance so I can make sure I have the money in there to cover everything. I was very upset just thinking about it because what if I had paid other bills not expecting that deduction and everything had bounced? That really ticks me off the more I think about it.

So I am going to start getting everything in order for a move next year and I found a perfect place which is weird because it’s in my area. For those of you that are dis-satisfied have you checked your local areas to see if there is something around you that is cheaper? The place I’ll be switching to if you pay yearly you get a free month and it will only cost me 90 dollars a year with 10 add on domains instead of 5 even though Bluehost says unlimited now, I still only get 5.

When I switch these are the features I will get: Unlimited Disk Space, Unlimited Bandwidth, CPanel and Fantastico, Free Blogs, Forums, Shopping carts,  Host Up to 10 Domains, and they promise up-time of 99.9% same as Bluehost plus many other features. They will also move everything for me at no extra charge of course the domain name isn’t included, but big deal. If I get upset with this company I’ll just go there in person and give them a small piece of my mind, can’t afford much more than that.

Does Project Wonderful Work For You?

Posted by: jude   in Marketing Online

I’m running Project Wonderful ads and will do so for at least 6 months to see if they will perform as a publisher to make money to advertise. This is something new to me even though I know it’s been out there for awhile. It seems a lot of Entrecard people use it more than anyone else other than comic sites. However it would be better if I was selling something it would be a very cheap way to get exposure and I might see a return when and if I become an advertiser..

I have been trying to make money online for many years and yes I have made some, but not what I had envisioned. My advertising budget doesn’t go very far and I’m all for saving money when I can and will even be checking into refurbished telephone systems for my office soon since I need another one so any extra money I make online helps. I’m not sure about the space PW takes up if it’s only going to bring in pennies.

I’ve been running it for 5 days and think I made 10 cents, I really don’t like that aspect of making so little for my ad spots, but I do realize people aren’t big ad clickers unless it has to do with their Google ads and then they form groups to click on each others ads. I like this because people pay for time and not CPM or CPC rates so there is no click fraud. I like that they are paying for time on my blog and not clicks. I am always on my blog checking things so it’s nice these people aren’t paying for my page hits.

There is really no incentive for anyone to click those ads unless it’s something that interests them because I get nothing for any clicks nor does anyone else so knowing they are bidding for time on those spots makes it okay. I’m not sure if I should drop it to 2 spots or leave it at 4 for now. I guess I’ll try experimenting with it next week and see what happens. Well, it’s something different to play with for a few months and see what happens. If you have experience with Project Wonderful I’d appreciate your input.

Clicky’s New Contenture Program

Posted by: jude   in Marketing Online

There’s a new Clicky program called Contenture which you can join for a small fee and visit sites that will hide ads so you aren’t inundated and assaulted by seeing so many. I of course wasn’t sure what it was an thought it was a way to monetize my blog, but it wasn’t what I thought it was so I removed the badge below from the sidebar because I really don’t expect anyone to support my blog but me unless of course I was offering some wonderful services or something useful which I do not.

This program would be better suited for large business sites that use a lot of paid advertising to block those ads for those subscribers that pay for the service and benefit themselves. I’m not sure I actually understand the program entirely, but if you want to read about it yourself and see if your blog or website could benefit from the program this help section explaining Contenture might be something you would want to check out. Apparently the fees are put into a pool and distributed among all Concenture users.

I realized after signing up and adding the plugin and the badge that it wouldn’t really benefit a blog like mine sometimes I jump the gun before I have all the facts, aah the joys of aging. The following quote is from Techgeist “Contenture is an anti-ad service that provides website owners and users the option of actual payments instead of seeing ugly advertisements all over the place.” I’m sure those of you that use Clicky got the same e-mails I did and were probably curious so I decided to add this small post for those people like myself that weren’t sure how it works.

I’ve tried many things online to make extra money, but viewing e-mails for two cents each hasn’t been one of them until last week. I thought why not try it when I saw the above ad on someones blog. Since they were giving me 10 dollars to sign up and get me started in the right direction to the 25 dollar pay out. Don’t laugh too hard because you’re smarter than me.

I’m laughing at myself now because at the rate they are giving me e-mails to read I’ll probably be 90 years old before I reach that 25 dollar payout. Of course if I had hundreds of people sign up under me and they read e-mails I would get a penny more while they still get their two cents, but it’s hard to get sign ups so I don’t see this program lasting very long for me or anyone else.

I have never been good at marketing although I have tried many things over the years I’ve been online. I’m not good at selling, but I was always a sucker for buying until I got burned too many times. It now takes a stick of dynamite to make me part with my money, but I will try a program if it’s free and I can possibly make a few bucks, but I’d like to see those few bucks before I die.

I have come to the conclusion that people shouldn’t sign up for reading e-mails it’s just not worth the time or effort, not that it really takes either, you just don’t get enough e-mails to read to make it worth while. I’m sure someone will tell me that they have made good money doing this, but I don’t think I’ll believe them. I hope everyone that celebrates Easter will have a great one.
