Sudden Cardiac Arrest Kills 325,000 A Year

Posted by: jude   in Senior Health

St. Jude Medical has a site with lots of information and resources about SCA and that stands for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. There’s also a risk factor assessment that you can print and fill out from St Jude Medical and you can take it with you on your next visit to your doctor so you can discuss it together. I think you’ll find this very interesting, I know I did.

I was reading about all the risk factors because heart attacks run in my family and with SCA even with no risk factors it could happen in a second and if not treated within 4-6 minutes it could be fatal, now that’s scary. I was amazed that it actually kills 325,000 people a year. On the video it shows a graph and this was higher than cancer and Alzheimer.

This site has 2 videos that will show you how the heart actually works and the doctor explains everything as you watch the heart and it’s easy to understand the way it’s explained, the other one explains about sudden cardiac arrest and I think everyone should watch them to learn more about treatment and therapy.

I have never known anyone that had to have an ICD implant. ICD stands for Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator and it is put under the skin and a lead goes through a vein into the heart, you’ll have to read it for yourself because I’m not good at explaining technical stuff.

I would imagine it’s along the lines of a pace maker, but I have never really read much about those either. They use these implants to treat in their words, dangerously fast heart rates. You’ll want to learn more about this.

Prevent Degeneration By Detoxification

Posted by: jude   in Senior Health

We as responsible adults do and should worry about all the toxins that are around us and it would be great if we could eliminate them, but as we advance further it seems we produce more ways for the human body to be riddled with even more toxins because of the stronger chemicals that are now being used.

We are using all kinds of new drugs and the amount of refined foods and sugars that we consume are alarming. Not quite as bad as the air and water pollution or the radiation and nuclear power that’s around us, but all these things will  contribute to the toxins in our system that need to be eliminated.

These toxins can make us sick, which we all know because everyone is trying to improve and make things better. Large companies have to now follow guidelines however some do break these laws, but they invariably get caught, but not always soon enough to prevent actual death of water life and even humans in some cases.

Chris from Living Well-Naturally  left a comment in the post below which I will repeat here because it is valid “I’m on day 7 of a 10 day herbal detox. The purpose of it isn’t just to make you regular; it cleanses the liver, kidneys etc of heavy metals and other toxins that we have accumulated over years.

It is very beneficial for people with skin problems like eczema for that reason, which is the main reason I am doing it. And you need to repeat the detox a couple times a year to keep your filtering systems up to snuff.”

I thought the above comment should be repeated here because not only will detoxing your body  help your skin and give you a renewed lease on life it will help with chronic and acute illnesses such as cardiovascular illnesses and cancer and some of the others that many suffer from that includes arthritis, obesity, and allergies.

When our immune system gets weak from all the toxins in our body we can develop gastrointestinal problems, headaches, cough, fatigue, and other various pains. I made light of the colon cleansing in the previous post, but it’s a very serious matter and much of our sufferings can be alleviated through a good cleansing or some other detoxification program.

Many people prefer a natural program and it can be either a short or long term one to rid us of all those harmful toxins that build up over time. Just like having a filter for your home to help eliminate the toxins you breath from the environment around you, you have to make sure the filtering system in your body is working properly to keep your body’s natural balance in check.

Many people also do the PH miracle diet to help eliminate some of the acid in the body to balance the core. In order to have a healthier mind our body needs to function in balance. There are many toxins that are produced internally by the body just from the every day things we do that have to be eliminated.

These biochemical substances that we produce from inside can cause irritation and inflammation of our cells and tissue that can block the normal function of an organ. When we get stressed we create even more acid and biochemical toxins from within. We are living longer lives because people are being educated about the importance of eating a balance diet, exercising, and drinking lots of water.

Many people do yoga to help find a balance in their life, even dogs are taking up yoga with their masters, it’s called doga. I saw that on television and thought it was cool. Just thought I would throw that in there because even the animals were feeling less stressed and relaxed it was pretty cool.

The imbalances that we create from eating refined foods, dairy products and all those fats alone produce lots of toxins that will benefit from detoxification and help restore a balanced mind and soul. When we feel good our outlook on life simply improves so detoxification is very important.

There are many programs out there that you can use to help rejuvenate and increase your bodies energy and help rid yourself of congestion and other potential illnesses that could attack and we can also help prevent degeneration. You know the old saying about an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I’m sorry I went a little long with this, because there is so much to be said actually about the cleansing of the body and not just the inside, we have to make sure the outside is cleansed as well from all the pollutants around us and even the chemicals we use on our body and hair can have devastating effects, so make sure the products you use are as natural as possible.

Detox Your Way To Health And Energy

Posted by: jude   in Senior Health

Many people are reluctant to talk about their  body functions and I find that hilarious because as you age that seems all the conversation we are interested in. We like to compare all our aches and pains and see who has the worst and advise our cronies of what helped us and how they can benefit from taking this product or that.

One subject that has gained momentum is how to detox our body and get rid of all the toxins that we build up. You hear about the celebrities going for body detoxification’s and I even watched it on television and thought to myself no way in hades would I humiliate myself like that, yeah I know these people are trained, but I don’t care.

I can still remember my Mama giving me enemas as a child because I was always constipated and to see myself going to a public facility to get rid of the toxins, no way. It became popular and fashionable with celebrities and then more people realized it was actually healthy for their bodies, but if I’m going to do that it will be at home without someone monitoring me.

Many people use many different products and programs for detoxing their body and each person must decide what is best for them. I use to fast, but sometimes I went to long, if you have eating disorders and even if you don’t you should always check with your doctor first, they can recommend a detox program that will benefit you, but I saw a product on television that was a natural way to detox your colon called Dual-Action Cleanse®

I would never go to a public place for a colon cleansing no matter what the benefits are and how they claim you can lose 20 pounds in one session, good for them. I do know that the safest way to detoxify is to do it the natural way with proper diet, but of course we don’t all do that.

I have tried everything else on the market even activia, but I still have problems. I envy people that have no problems and can cleanse their colon naturally with no help. Many people have no problem reducing the junk food they eat and avoid fats, alcohol, caffeine, and food additives and I like the fact they everyone is trying to eat healthier.

They eat lots of digestible vegetables and fruit that are rich in vitamins that help flush out the toxins, but sadly we don’t always get all the fiber we need to get rid of toxins so we need help and the product I mentioned above has so many natural herbs and nutrients I could never get them all by eating so it may serve me well, at least it would be more natural and I could detox in the privacy of my home.

Dealing With Aging

Posted by: jude   in Senior Health

When I was young I thought it was gross for old people to be sexually active I simply couldn’t comprehend that idea. I thought that physical contact was reserved for young people with supple youthful bodies not our parents or grandparents, how naive. One would think that it would at least slow down and maybe it does when you  get really ancient, but from studies being done and the use of enhancers to stimulate the libido maybe it never will.

Testosterone and estrogen are the two most important hormones for men and women. Everyone knows that women go through menopause at a certain age, but men also experience a similar process that is called andropause and just like women they can experience mood swings, hot flashes, fatigue, and infertility. Other symptoms that will occur for some are erectile dysfunction, loss of interest in sex, depression, and anxiety, just to name a few. Read more about andropause. (will open in a new window)

We old people have so much to look forward to don’t we? Just as some women do estrogen replacement, there is also testosterone replacement for men and it will help relieve your symptoms, but wont cure them. Make sure you have test done to determine your testosterone levels and you see a qualified doctor because you can develop side effects from too much testosterone, like heart disease and enlarged prostate glands.

I, myself decided not to do estrogen replacement, but many women have because it does help reduce our risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. Some women have reported experiencing blood clotting and also uterus and or breast cancer. Many women are trying more natural remedies like black cohosh and soy products, but there are others that can be considered.

I personally don’t mind the aging process so long as I don’t lose the ability to stay mobile and not dependant on anyone to take care of me. The only thing I think I will dread is if I ever have to wear depends, now that is an ungodly thought. My niece worked in a nursing home in Chattanooga and some of the stories she related to me was heartbreaking. I do not want to  live out my days in an old folks home.

Both male and female are advised to relax, rest well, exercise, eat the right kinds of food, and abstain from drinking and smoking. That’s the key for everyone though isn’t it?

My Poor Old Back Isn't What It Use To Be

Posted by: jude   in Senior Health

Almost everyone that I know suffers from some sort of back pain and more than likely most of you will suffer some kind of back pain in your life time. Of course we try to take care of our self and spine, but as we get older we lose that flexibility and elasticity and  even though we might feel like we can still do the things we have always done there comes a time when our body just wont obey what we tell it to do.

The discs in our spine that cushion our vertebrae are aging and may not be able to give us as much cushion as before. Because of Injuries sometimes the discs will bulge outward from between the vertebrae and causes pain as they press on nerves and believe me it’s very painful and difficult to move around. I have been having back trouble since 98 when I worked in a tomato factory.

There are many things that can cause lower back pain and they include pregnancy weight gain, sleeping in the wrong position, obesity, stress, smoking, poor physical condition just to name a few. Lower back pain can also be caused by degenerative spinal conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, disc disease, viral infections or birth defects.

Of course you might not have injured yourself in any type of accident and neither did I until I hurt myself in 98 I had never had any back pain except one time when I bent down to tie my shoe and something popped of course I thought it would pop back, but it didn’t and I put off going to the Dr. till I could barely move and when I finally went he couldn’t do anything till the swelling went down and it popped in so easy.

I could have avoided all that pain if I had went straight away and not played doctor for my self. Sometimes you don’t need to injure yourself or do anything out of the ordinary to have back problems. Simple turning over in bed as you’ve done millions of times, or picking up a box the wrong way can result in a sudden sharp pain and days of reduced mobility, I know you know the proper way to lift something, but do you use it?

Once you’ve injured your back or any part of your body, for whatever reason, scar tissue forms during healing. This scar tissue is not as strong or as flexible as normal tissue, which means you have an increased probability of re-injuring yourself in the same spot. Scar tissue can build up and will weaken your spin which can in turn lead to more serious injuries.

It’s not fun when you can’t move around and do anything without experiencing pain so we really need to take it easy on our back. A few things we need to do is exercise regularly, it doesn’t have to be strenuous like when we were younger. We need to drink plenty of liquids and try to maintain a solid core for our posture.

Always remember to bend your knees when lifting heavy objects never keep your legs straight and try to pull it up and don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. I get very frustrated because I physically am not as strong as I use to be, but I’m so stubborn that I try and invariably I end up paying for that stubborn streak. So be kind to your body and take it easy on your back so you can have that mobility for a long long time.
